Hi
I have now been looking for a while and am struggling to find a nice G40, or any for that matter. Are they still out there, the only really nice ones i can see are proper club members cars. Do you guys ever part with them?  ;D
If anyone is poss considering parting with theirs in the near future please drop me a pm.  :D
Many thanks Dunx

I didn't know it would be so hard to find a nice original 40, does anyone know the numbers of each colour when the original 500 odd cars were sold in the UK.
I ideally want a black one but have no idea how many were actually in the UK. I would poss consider a white or red.

Cheers again guys, Dunx

Black ones are about for sale. You just have to be in the right place at the right time. Took me a while to find mine.

in my opinion you should get the best car you can find and blow what colour it is....

you have a choice of about 300, most were red or white...  I'd quite like a montana green one, but getting one is unlikely, getting a decent one is even less likely!

wasnt that an optional colour? Only ever seen one polo in that colour.

PeteG40

windsor blue, royal blue, capri green, montana green were all optional colours.

Cheers Guys
I have contacted the guy via piston heads several days ago but his replies are a little slow.
I know it is a tall order getting the colour, spec and price but it will be a very long term thing that i will be looking to get to concourse condition and keep for many years.
To be honest mileage, mods and mechanical probs i would be flexible on as these can be rectified.

I was an apprentice mechanic at the VW dealer in Henley on Thames in 1992 when a white G40 came in for me to PDI (pre delivery inspection). I was blown away. So in about 96 i got a red one then sold it in 99 to my brother in-law. I now import Jap cars mainly EK9 Honda Civic Type R that are awesome little track day cars straight from the box. But just looking for something a little different for myself so G40 it is.

This is the pic that sparked my old G40 passion going again.

Being a mechanic and through importing i have go to know alot of useful people. Mobile dents repair and scuffs repair men and i work part time in a body shop. So being a car sales man i am quite picky, know what i am looking at but very open minded.

well I've owned 5 g40s, owned this for 2 years now.  I'm the 3rd owner.  It has a full service history - including bill of sale and letters to the dealership asking fro a test drive!  Second owner had it abotu a year and did about 1,000 miles.

its stock apart from konis, (less than 10k old)
new vag front bearings and top mounts
new front discs
new rear drums, bearings, shoes
goodridge braided hoses.
supercharger serviced about 7k ago - pulls 0.6 bar on a stock pulley.
yokos all round - decent nick
new vag back box (these aint cheap)
cat 2 certificated immobiliser

Like i say - solid as a rock... but

So whats the mileage on it now? how come you have owned 5? where abouts are you?
Sorry for all the questions, Dunx

PeteG40

Its done 99,000 miles. 12 months mot 6 months tax.

I've owned 5 cos...

1st i loved in 2002 lovely car but the 2nd came along.
2nd had 29,000 on the clock mint, Ran it for 5 years until i was a little bored and bought a golf g60. It was thirsty and too big so i bought

3rd one - which is this one, owned 2 or 3 years.  While owning this one, i've put engines back in 2 - one owned by Rae and another which sold to a member of the forum... It was always about saving the g40s - they would've been broken for spares otherwise   Being someone who actually runs this club, its a bit of an obsession!!

I'm in sheffield

also had a vag cam belt and water pump less than 10k ago.
