Off topic section?
« on: April 30, 2008, 02:43:35 pm »
One or two people have mentioned putting a totally off topic section on here.  I know some people agree with this and others don't so I think the best way is to have a vote.  I'll leave this up for one week and will then act accordingly at the end!

Replies to this thread saying why you voted the way you did are welcome.

I voted yes - I think it could work on here as it's a small tight-knit group, it's not quite the massive playgroup that Club Polo is.

yeah i was chatting with spaniel about this, it would help members get to know each other a bit better, i tihnk off topic is vital in such a small based group...

spaniel rounded it up with

"i mean we are old enough to talk 'good rubbish' rather than pathetic 'how bis ya wheels innit"

but like i said to him it will be heavily monitored and anything that we think isnt needed or relevant will be deleted :D

yeah good to see this getting some thought.  I hope the following opinion may sway some of those that see off topic as a bad thing.

I just think with off topic we all pretty much know each other anyway and an off topic really gives us a chance to show our personalities..a big downfall I think with clubpolo these days is it has no real community because as soon as anyone says anything slightly off topic your shot down and hung.  This gives the place a very sterile, boring feel and almost nazi regime.. 'do this, do that' IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED .......' I could go on.  I feel like a kid.  I dont feel like i know anyone.  The same threads pop up all the time because let's face it cars are machines they all break the same so your bound to see  the same things repeated.
It's difficult though and in some ways comparing it to a site as big as clubpolo is irrelevant really as it would get litered with junk on there.  On here though we are a little older, there are less of us and the odd thread for a giggle does no harm..i think its good to remind ourselves that this is actually just a forum!  it doesnt really matter if someone posts rubbish...i mean.. i'll still get my dinner tonight!

Yes you could say 'well the forums for the cars, go to the hairdressers to talk'  well yeah but then i'd be talking to women..hang on?!  see you lot in a bit...  no really  you'd be talking to people with different interests.. we all have something in common here so it's safe to say in one small way we have similar personalities so there is no reason we can't know each other on a personal level too...I've come to know loads of people though my car and i love that!  I want to talk to people with similar interests!  I don't want to log onto another site when the people who are similar to me are here?!

Even reading about someone sleeping with two lasses..getting caught..she pours paint stripper on your car..so you fuck her mother...and her brother.. see thats interesting..shall i go on?!  its just for a laugh and as long as its centralised its fine.

Another thing for me is this website has very low traffic and i personally would come on more if there was an off topic as its somewhere to just have a bit banter.  i really really wanted to share this ridiculously funny video with you lot the other night but after such a long time under the regime known as clubpolo i didn't dare.

I think it's a great idea, and what do we have to loose?  you can't have a community if you don't know the people within it.. you can know their car but when you meet them what can you say?  I'll do an example...

Clubg40 No off topic...rolling road day scenario:
Green G40 owner 'Hi mate..whats your name on the forum?'

white G40 owner 'whiteG'

Green g40 owner 'ah right sound..sort that miss fire?'

white g40 owner ' yeah mate it was....'

green g40 ' yeah'

white g40 owner 'silence'

green g40 owner 'silence'

Clubg40 with  off topic...rolling road day scenario:
Green g40 owner 'alright dan, hows the car?

white g40 owner 'yeah andy, mint mate, cheers fella'

green G40 ' that video you posted was funny as owt'

white g40 'ha yeah see the bit where he....'

green g40  ' shit yeah man!

white g40 'you coming to the piss up tonight'

gree g40 'defo mate, should be quality'

see the difference?  much more human.

I'll let this run till friday afternoon and will then add the section if the results carry on as they are.  Looks like I'm the only person who doesn't want it :)

haha, probably is too.   Not seen or heard from him since I was five.

But at least him and my mum didn't run off to france just to get away from me!
