g40 low temp
« on: April 22, 2008, 10:21:40 pm »
right - my g40 seems to run a low temp

I've put a new thermostat housing on with new thermostat and coolant. It reads about 70-75 in normal driving conditions and does get to about 90 when stood in traffic and the fan comes on about 95-100. even when its reading 70 the heaters are very hot so i think its a gauge problem as opposed to actually being cold

I've tried a different black temp sender but still read the same. Is it possible I've got two duff black senders? or are the clocks reading wrong?

What do people think?

cheers
Pete

Deffo reading low, should be about 85 degrees while cruising. Try swapping with Sam's

my GT always did that when I replaced the thermostat.  I don't know whether it's because they make different thermostats that open earlier (this was from VW) or because the thermostat has been sat on a shelf somewhere for years?  I found it hard to believe that the gauge had suddenly gone inaccurate as it sat at a perfect 90deg before the old stat stuck shut and I replaced it.

I'd be interested to know the outcome on this one, as my farthers G has the same issue, I'm wondering if the gauges get tried, as the control wire on the back of them is very fragile looking???  ALternatively could it be a poor connector in the loom somewhere?

Mine was running cool, went to replace the thermostat, and it didn't have one...

I had an 'overheating' G40 that turned out to be just the gauge. I've also had the black temperature sender fail more than once and the thermostat. The gauge is quite easy to replace; it's a plug in module (along with the fuel gauge) once you have taken the back off the clocks. Any Polo clocks should be OK to get the bits from. I used the gauges from a LHD G40 and had a fuel guage reading in litres instead of gallons.

Looks like a dodgy gauge. I've tried one of the black temp senders and its fine, got another one to try but it worked perfectly in my car.
