I've been using Yokohama A048Rs in medium compound so far.  I quite like them although you do need to get a decent amount of heat into them before they are effective.  I paid just shy of £300 from Camskill for mine.  185/55/14 since I need 14" wheels to clear my brakes.

I'll be needing a new set after my track day I reckon so what do people recommend?

A539, used widely in stock hatch series (control tyre) and is far cheaper than A048R- if you can consistently do 'hot laps' to get the heat into a cut slick, and maintain that level then it's fine, but soon as they cool you've dropped below road tyre grip.

A539 would also mean you're not wearing it out on the road driving to shows etc, they're cheaper too, and I'm not sure you'd notice the half a second or so the A048Rs give you on a track day? Possibly have a set for track day, set for road?

yeah I do out laps and in laps to warm up and cool down.  I find the tyres and brakes are better for it.

Been considering getting some a539s on the wheels for road use and then have a set of steels with the a048rs on

Mathers takes both A048R and A539s to track days with him. Said he only ever uses the A048Rs if there's no traffic, so he can keep doing quick laps and keep the heat in - otherwise he prefers the A539s.

yeah, I'm definitely thinking I'll do the same.  Need to get a nice set of 14" golf steelies or something.

I'm using A048 and as you say they are best when they are warm. But I didn't find them tooooo bad when cold. I also thought about R888's but they only do them in 185/60/14.
I did hear that they were discontinuing A539's but I guess that's not true.. lucklly :)

My G40 has yokohama a539 and i dont have the grip that i wanted... I wish michelin had 175/60/13s for the stock BBS rims.....
