Annoying oil mist from catch tank
« on: February 01, 2009, 01:46:08 pm »
The oil mist that has been coming out my catch tank is beginning to make a bit of a mess of the intercooler down below. What have you guys done to combat this? I was thinking about making/fitting some kind of filter to catch most of this. I was thinking about getting a small K&N filter to cover the outlet. I'm curious to see what other people think/have done.

yeah I had a small filter on mine to stop most of that when I had my old engine in which suffered a lot of blowby.

Cheers, Paul! I certainly hope it's not blow by on mine - the engine has only done around 5000 miles! Mind you, it doesn't really use any noticeable amount of oil between changes, so I'm sure it's fine!

you have forged pistons don't you?  Bear in mind that until the engine gets hot you do get a fair amount of blowby from those pistons until they expand and seal properly.

I was getting a LOT of oil mist from my catch tank though with my old engine in.

Ah, yes... good point! I'd completely forgotten about that!
