Power figures
« on: July 31, 2019, 09:47:16 pm »
Looking at other posts through the years, my understanding is that my build (1341, 252/276 cam, 51mm tb, get inlet, smaller pulley, manifold, exhaust) would require g60 injectors as I should be getting to 160bhp+. I have the injectors, slightly increased compression, ported head and a g45, so I'm thinking (based on other builds again) that I should be nearing 180ish.
I'm going standalone ECU, and after having discussions with my mapping guy he thinks the standard injectors wouldn't manage more than 120hp and g60s 160 without risking going lean. So what am I missing? Has everyone else cracked up the fuel pressure to mich higher levels? Or was everyone running a bit lean?

During the mapping of my car, a run on the standard injectors showed it leaning off over 160hp. G60s will be fine - much bigger than that can lead to a rich idle.

No increase in fuel pressure? Everything I've read on here agrees with you, but this guy is convinced by his physics. Maybe I've missed something, but there's no way VW specced injectors at 90% duty cycle to make standard power on both the g40 and g60.

His figures are a bit off.  For example, a G60 is 160bhp in a 1.8l engine as standard so there's no way g60 injectors are only any good for 160bhp.  It's a crude comparison but then simply rating injectors by bhp is crude anyway.  You can use 310cc injectors which are good for 200+ bhp.  But if you don't plan on doing more than you've listed there.  I have 315cc injectors on mine with the standard fuel pressure reg.

If more than 200hp is possible I'll look in to it at a later date. And i fully agree, VW didn't design injectors to run at 90% and  make standard power. Hopefully the Dyno will tell all this afternoon.
