Power expectations
« on: January 31, 2009, 04:30:39 pm »
This is all going to be a bit pie in the sky, but I'm curious.

I had my G40 on the rollers at the 2006 Club Polo rolling road day, and it made 136bhp and 139lbs/ft with the following mods:

Full Blend Supercharger; SNS Stage 5 chip; Bosch 250cc "Green" Injectors; 68mm pulley; GT inlet manifold; De-restricted airbox; Longlife stainless steel exhaust with decat pipe;

I've since fitted toothed belts and had a bespoke PSD remap, bringing it up to similar spec to Robin's when it ran at the same RR day. So an estimated 145-150 - does sound like a big gain from the toothed belts but hey.

In the next few months I'm having a polished and ported head, fast road cam and probably a vernier pulley, plus a rolling road setup and remap on Regal Autosport's rollers.

What do you reckon it'll be making afterwards?

The engine and charger have done just under 100k and do feel very strong.

so now you've got toothed belts you'll have a 65mm pulley of course.

My guess is going to be 160bhp.  You are still 1272cc right?

I'd go with 160ish if you are going to map it on a rolling road as you can tweak alot of things if you get a proper custom map.

I am running 166bhp with the following spec

1341cc
Full Blend
Toothies
Front Mount Intercooler
250cc injectors
PPP custom'ish map
1341 high lift cam
GT Inlet
4 Branch
PPP 63mm Exhaust
Metal Headgasket

Should be able to get 180bhp with the mist and a proper PPP custom map to suit.

Yeah I was reckoning about 160, I'm still 1272 and at the moment I reckon it'll stay that way, but if I get a rebuild it'd be rude not to add more cubes. :)

While the head's off, is it worth getting a metal head gasket?

I am still running a standard derestricted airbox with a standard paper air filter on mine.

A metal headgasket will obviously increase the CR so i think it is worth it but you may see more pinking like i have.

Stick with the standard one if you have bought it. If you go metal it increases the CR slightly (which you may or may not wan't). If the deck of the block isn't skimmed or really straight it might mot seal too well.

if i had the choice i would go for the standard one, the metal one i got is giving me too much pinking.

At the moment a map I put together in the Aldon Automotive car park, so it's miles from being perfect - but it's better than what was in there.

The previous owner had a PSD chip in the car, but as Robin had a stock cam and cylinder head (but 1341cc 9:1 CR pistons) the car pinked its arse off when the base timing was set correctly.

My own car was one of the first few (9:1 CR) 1341cc motors, and I had the same trouble 'til PSD developed their '1341cc' cam which they fitted and Liam retarded the base ignition timing a touch. I then fitted a BV head which allowed me to set the base timing back to stock with the 1341cc base map and not get pinking. Need to get those hot gases out quickly running the higher CR.
