G40 wishbbone
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:45:13 pm »
Hello everyone,

i have a question as i have never seen a G40 specific wishbone and i can't trust the internet images. I have in my stash a wishbone from an original G40 car and i don't know if it is G40 specific. Can anyone tell me from the images?

Thanks, Nikos

It doesn't look like it. It looks like you have a rubber bush each end.

A G40 has a bearing (rose joint, ball joint, uniball, it's called many, many, many things as I've discovered!) on one end and a rubber bush on the other. I can't find a picture of an official G40 arm, but here's an aftermarket one. This one has an upgraded polyurethane/ Nylon bush in it at the outer end. https://www.maxrpm.de/Racing-wishbone-for-all-Polo-86-und-86c-2-2F-With-teflon-camp-outside-eccentric-universal-joint-bearings-The-original

Yes i have seen all the aftermarket ones, but it is strange that every time i search for an original one picture i couldn't find anything. This is why i post the image to find out if anybody have an original picture.

For reference, the G40 part number for ones with bearings; 871 407 151 A

The standard (non-G40) part number with rubber bushes; 861 407 151 B

ETKA source; https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/polo+derby+vento-ind/po/1994-120/4/411-32000/#17

I was about to say I think VW Heritage have them at ~ £130 each. I just cut and pasted the part number into google and a new site (new to me) came up with one at €134,99

link; https://pogo-performance.de/product/querlenker-oem-vw-g40-871-407-151-a/

From memory, the last VW stock item sold in the UK was about 2005 or something....... I always thought it'd be a good part to make aftermarket, judging by the prices of them it might pay for someone to make a batch and sell them!

i know them, the pogo performance i mean. I think i found them about a year ago when i was searching a lower strut brace. The picture they have by the way, it might be what i want. I think i am going to jack up the parts car to find out if it have original wishbones :)

I tried uploading pics last night but kept getting told file size was too large. I've put them in my google drive, never shared a link from there so hopefully it'll work.

The bits circled in red are G40
The bits in blue/green are non-G40
