Ported G40 or standard'ish' G60?
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:22:19 am »
Having a real struggle on deciding between reconditioning/porting my G40 charger or  getting a G60 charger? to be used on, again, standard'ish' 1.3 G40 engine...
Price would be about the same between the 2, G60 already includes mounts and according to the seller, has been reconditioned recently (guess that is main selling phrase on g-laders eheh)
Would be good to get some opinions!

If i hadn’t gone turbo, i would of looked at G60. I did look into it a few years ago but with the G60 charger failing more than a g40 charger, i thought id leave it. However, i was at the point of looking for more power when already at 170bhp. If i had a standard G40, i would be very tempted just to bolt a G60 charger on and see what it would be like.

From a discussion on this similar subject, i think the G60 flowed almost 1.5 times more air than a G40 and the G45 charger was still less flow than a G60 but obviously more than the G40. But that was figures on a standard G40, there was never any figures on a ported G40 or even a ported G40 with 65mm pulley.

Thank you Jezza,
obviously the way to go performance-wise would be turbo, but I really don't like G40's without the factor that gave this car its respect, the g-lader..
Hence the thought of going G60 route, how hard is it to setup ?
I've heard people saying they used regular G40 mounts modified to fit G60s..
I'm more inclined to a G60, rather than porting the G40

Thing with the ported G40 is all you're doing is removing metal from the exhaust side of the casing (from what I've seen). This will help it flow as much of the air which is being displaced as freely as possible.

A G60 blower will be displacing more air due to it being physically bigger.

Roettele Racing do G60 bolt-on upgrades for people with remaps to suit.

Price would be about the same between the 2

this is miles off, it'll cost far more to convert to G60 than it will to get a G40 charger ported.Buying the G60 charger is about 10%-20% of what you'll need to do the conversion.

This particular deal was about the same, only needed to add the g60 mount as I use headers. However it didn't happen...
Problem is being isolated and posting prices go way higher than they should.
Is there a thread on how to port the G40? I'm tempted to do it, I have my share of spares..

Hello,

no problem, here is the table with the airflow:

- G40: 566ccm³ per rotation
- G45: 635ccm³ per rotation
- G60: 860ccm³ per rotation
- G65: 925ccm³ per rotation
- G75: 1060ccm³ per rotation

Ciao, Thorsten

So a ported G40 charger would never be superior to a G45 or G60, since the G45 uses a G60 displacer...
I heard some people saying the G40 could be superior depending on how much work was put into it, but i suspect they had these numbers available.

Any porting how to's around? I know this is hush hush top secret, but since i'm isolated...might as well give it a go

Can't say I've seen one, that's not to say they don't exist but not something I've ever looked at (I'd rather bung someone some money and let them risk breaking it! lol). There's nothing in the FAQ; https://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/board,33.0.html but there are a few people on here that have done it and can probably give you advice. May have to wait a while until they come back on and see your post though!

With regard to the mounting, there is a guy on here that used a g40 mount for it. Cant remember his name but the build thread is here and you can use it.

Bolt a G60 on and run a 75mm pulley and see what its like. I wouldn’t go any lower than a 68mm pulley personally.

:)
I left the g60 deal....Now I'm going to make the most out of my g40 charger...Maybe sometime later I'll come back to this since  the g60 is something I always wanted on my car..
Thank you :)
