We are looking to move house so unfortunately my mk1 polo project has got to go.

Many of you may know its history as it was previously own by Yoof.

Ill let the pictures do most of the talking.

Here is is when I picked it up from having the roll cage welded in and also the motorsport top mounts fitted by the same guy who does the PPP stuff.

I made a spit for the project (which is included in the sale)

Over many many messy days, I removed all the underseal from the bottom of the car.

The chassis then went for a media blasting at Retropower

Which as usual in car of this age revealed some rot and some dodgy repairs.

Rear axle mount repaired building it back up in layers like the original

Rear arches had the old "work" removed and the inner and outer skins re-joined. The wheel holes are larger than normal to allow for wide wheels under the Berg arches.

Other repairs that still need doing are.

Both sills (New sills are included in the sale)
Front and rear turrets are tatty. (I have cut turrets out of another car for grafting in.
Rear chassis legs. Both needed repairing. I have done one the other needs doing but the new vw panel is included.
The front end is beyond saving. I planned on doing a full fibreglass flip front like is common on minis. Included in the sale are fibreglass wings, arches, bonnet and front valance.

I removed the roof as it was a sunroof, it also makes access a lot easier. I have an acid dipped non sunroof panel to be fitted.

The doors and boot were also acid dipped, they were treated with a rust inhibitor but they do have some very light surface rust which just rubs off.

The front jacking points need replacing, one is mostly done the other needs doing, again I have new vw panels for this.

Obiously there is still work to be done, but it is a great start to what could be and amazing track car. All panels that need replacing are included in the sale so all that is needed is some time. Sadly something I dont have.

It might not look it but there has been a lot of work done to get he chassis to where it is now.

To date the car has cost me just over £2k in parts not inluding my time, I would like 1500 but am open to offers.

I have bolted on some old suspension and wheels so the shell is rolling which makes things easier for transport.

Any questions please let me know, I am happy to go and take more pictures if anything isnt clear.

The car is located in Kettering, Northamptonshire

Thanks

Matt

This definitely isnt the sort of project i should be taking on in my last year of uni.... or is it

Kustom

I built a car at uni, had more time then than I do now  :'(

Pete started this mk1 as his HND project so I say do it. But then I would lol.

physicsfool

Haha... I am leaning that way. Mk1 with a G lump is my dream and this shell is perfect.
But also got to think about my PhD thesis. It's taking time and pretty consuming

Kustom

My plan was a g40 turbo lump  8)

What are you doing for a PhD?

physicsfool

Yes lad. Would be a proper nice set up. It's in industrial plasma processing. Semiconductor diagnostic and manufacture.......  at least I think it is.
