Slight play in steering wheel
« on: November 14, 2015, 07:28:36 pm »
I've noticed that there is a tiny bit of play in my steering wheel i.e. I can feel it move up/down/left/right; not visibly, but I can definitely feel it. Any thoughts on where I should start looking? Thanks in advance :)

Possibly the nut thats down the steering column has come loose. Its like a clamp, mine came loose once and felt very odd.

i have the same problem. In my car the clamp thing is in good shape. I have not fix it yet but i think is the bearing in the back of the steering wheel.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll check those bits out. I know the steering clamp you're talking about, so that'll be an easy check :) Thanks again!

The the u-shaped black clamp on the column shaft, and the pinch bolt onto the steering rack (middle of the pedal box).

However the spot welds on the column bracket on my car have started to fail, so over winter I'll be beefing this up

Cool, thanks! I haven't checked it yet; but I'm adding it to the list of things to look into during my rebuild project :)

Cool, thanks. I normally use the VagCat one. It's extremely helpful :)
