you need to torque all the bolts up to their correct settings (including gearbox casing) or you're not going to get a true value.

This- and remove any old sealant!

Cheers guys, will give it a go, I forgot to say there was a load of sealant which I took off, surely torqueing the bolts will make the free play smaller? which is the opposite of what i'm after :P i'll see what happens anyway

So I found out what the issue was after I drained the gearbox oil today only to find it full of metal particles. Turns out the diff was hitting the gearbox casing and has ground a bit of it away, so for anyone fitting a diff, check it doesn't hit the clutch side casing!
