removing/replacing gearbox lock rings
« on: April 03, 2008, 09:47:32 pm »
any one here who has stripped down and/or rebuilt a gearbox?

If so, what the hell do you use to remove and replace those horrible little lock rings holding fifth gear on?!? They dont have holes in to locate a normal pair of circlip pliers, just tapered edges and they're bloody tight!  Can't help but thinking there must be some tool somewhere ideal for doing them.

Replying to my own post but it looks like these bad-boys might do the job, I've got a meeting in rochdale tomorrow morning about 2 mins away from Frosts too  :)

From memory I pikied them off with a combination of screwdrivers. That tool looks like a better way of doing it though...

well called into Frosts after my meeting at Zen Internet's mental new headquarters in Rochdale, was only £4.50 so I'll see if it does the job tonight!

I tried some screwdrivers  but gave up after nearly stabbing myself through the hand a couple of times.
