So I am in the process of an engine rebuild and looking at bearings and all manner of parts. My local machine shop quoted me 150 for crank and main bearings as well as piston rings. But they are made by Karl Schmidt and NPR respectively. Now I have looked at GSF and maxrpm as well as OCD but the only name that keeps popping up is Glyco and Mahle.

Should I stick with then or venture into the unknown?

Mahle are very good, they make oem parts

PeteG40

big ends - such as ks should be about £20-25

mains about £30-40

and the flat bearings whose name escapes me about 20 a set

I'd not want to pay more than £100 all in

piston rings - goetze are oem i think

I went for Karl Schmidt, they looked OE in a different box (very good quality). The mains have grooves both sides. As Pete mentioned price was around that.

They list their big ends as "heavy duty" whatever that means?

The Glyco mains I bought from bartek came through as the other type with grooves on one side and flat the other. I think these had a built-in thrust washer. So would avoid purchasing these unless you're assured they are the correct pattern.

Good thread, I always wondered where one buy engine parts, that aren't listed on say this forum (peteG40) or others.

Does anyone do a G40 complete engine rebuild kit...
