Hi all, does anyone on here plug their G40s into vagcom?
my mate has Vagcom on his laptop but only has the lead for newer cars. I'd like to be able to plug mine in to make sure theres no fault codes.
If anyone uses it, where did you buy the lead from?

Cheers

my lead is a cheapo ebay jobbie.  It's a proper serial cable though not USB, loads of people seem to have trouble with some of the cheaper USB ones. I've never got vagcom working with my g40 though, I always use a program called vwtool.exe, read the vagcom faq in the faq section!

I use vagcom in linux using the Wine windows emulator just fine on my passat.  Can't get vagcom to talk to g40 digifant using any OS though (although others have, prob depends what lead you have and how much messing about with port speeds etc... you do).  vwtool.exe doesn't seem to like to run in linux using the emulator so I have a spare laptop hard drive with windows on it for nothing but using vwtool on.

So long story short, I doubt it will work on a mac.

I had a horrible feeling that would be the case. :-\

I think we're moving to hot desking at work soon - which means I get a Windows laptop apparently. I might just whack it on that. ;D

yes that's the only way to guarantee it'll work.  I think any lead from ebay is a gamble there's about a million different ones.  In my experience the proper serial cables (with the "old fashioned" 9-pin D plug) are more likely to work than USB cables, that's my experience with my G40 anyway.  Problem is a lot of computers these days don't have 9-pin serial ports on them anymore which I find quite annoying!

I've got a cheap USB one from ebay and its fine works with G40 + other vag cars that have a diagnostic port
