ko3s part number?
« on: April 20, 2014, 11:42:55 am »
Hello, I still have no clue what turbo does or does not fit. Read threads and people just say audio and passant ones? Not golf's? Is that correct?
Ideally I need a part number from someone else's turbo? Would anyone be so kind?
I can get hold of vw then, I can get a new one cheap rather than used
Thanks taylor

You want one from a longitudinal engine'd 1.8t car, i.e. A4 or Passat. There's a variety of different trims, but the K03-005 is the most commonly available. K03-029 has a larger turbine wheel (so the boost threshold is higher, but it'll flow a bit better), and the rarer K03-073 is a -029 with a larger compressor wheel and housing - very similar to a K04-015.

Having tried all the aforementioned K03 trims, I'd recommend the -029 though the -073 is the way to go if you want to break 200bhp.

058 145 703 N is the -005 (I think - can't find a pic to verify 100%)
058 145 703 J is the -029
06B 145 703 B is the -073

Getting it trade from VAG is likely to be a lot more expensive than getting it from Turbo Dynamics or similar.

Andy that is absolutely perfect mate! :)
Thanks for posting that :D

I'm hoping it will be a bit cheper than trade, but I did not know that
I've found £500 on Internet new as a rough benchmark price
I shall get onto turbo dynamics,  thanks again dude

Other option is to buy a new CHRA and use it to rebuild a secondhand eBay special. Total cost <£300ish and you can get a CHRA with a 360° thrust bearing in too.

I did think about rebuilding a cheap eBay one :) £300 would be dam good, most "new" chargers are just recon ones anyway
CHRA? Sorry mate what do you mean?
Thanks :)

CHRA = centre hub rotating assembly, i.e. the turbo 'core'.

I see, not too clued up on turbos

Turbo dynamics are £520! Pretty steep! Might opt for rebuilding one. Where do you recommend for rebuild kits and new CHRA with the uprated bearing?

David Hughes got back to me with we don't make turbo manifolds as the tubular steel will not support a turbo, looks like I'll be waiting a very long time for a rothe mani

The phil j ones may not be anywhere near the best but in terms of cost and the ease of sourcing one, cant knock it really. I waited for a rothe one for a while but never came up with one

No offence to Phil J, bit after the last exhaust fiasco I had with him I'm not buying one lol

If I can't go rothe I'm a bit bummed with what to do :S not settling for anything less that bang on :(
Hence wanting a new turbo etc

Stop poosing around and get a custom manifold, if your going for brand new turbo too if it was me I'd get a roller bearing turbo.

The only benefit of the k03 is that there is off the shelf stuff. Think I paid 270 for the turbo mani and downpipe and I've paid £40 per turbo and I've had two.

Yeah I was going to get an emtec mani like yoof and go garrett as they are only £600 for the roller bearing gt2554r!!! Bargain! But it's too big and don't want the lag
The ko3 will be more suited, and have similar characteristics of a glader with the right cam :) you know any roller bearing turbos with little or no lag? Like a ko3?
Also Ive been in contact with jp racing (they make ppp exhausts) and they said they won't make me a manifold :(

Emtec manifolds fit fine, providing you make your own downpipe.

Very few parts will fit 100% straight away, you always need to accept there's some fettling or engineering to be done.

+ GT22 would be good for the road with the correct cam.

Rothe stuff turs up very frequently on ebay.de - bide your time  ;)

Thanks dude, and thanks for the confirmation on the emtec mani fitting well as i know you had a load of trouble with all the other bits. yeah i dont mind modifying parts as at the end ofthe day im fitting a turbo to a car with a supercharger lol. i just dont want one of those phil J manifolds as they look terrible :S and so was my exhaust system from him. My ppp one fits lovely now :)

The only thing with the gt22 is its journal bearing, if im paying more for a lush t25 stainless manifold and £600 odd for a garrett. it may as well be for dual ball bearings, i was thinking the 54 trim version of the gt25 at first, what do you think? reckon i could get lag down considerably with 54 trim and the right cam?
