Still here dude,

I think its actually a 252/276 cam not 272 (that was the piper one)

http://www.bar-tek-tuning.com/SCHRICK+Nockenwelle+g40+86c+polo.htm

From the site

Polo G-40 252°/276° asymetric.

Increasing torque and horsepower! suitable for 170 HP

252°/276°
cam lift 9,6/10,0,
valve lift at TDC 0,7/1,3,
for hydr. lifters

No idea on suitability, although people have put G60 chargers on G40's the idea hasn't appealed to me! I'm sure theres a couple of build threads on conversions here, maybe have a read and see what they used.

Not sure if PPP have had any '60 powered '40s in to map yet?

Ok mate, have to look into it, yeah there's not a great deal of info on it, seems to be more common with the Germans and Dutch

Can't really find anything over here, search bar isnt very good, neither is Google, just comes up with g60 stuff

No ppp don't, would have to get it trailered to them and custom mapped

How come it hasn't appealed to you?
Ah ok mate thanks

Andy

Wouldn't need to trailer it Taylor, could adjust the boost return so it's always slightly open and limits boost to <1 bar and then drive on your G40 map. You'd need a bigger map sensor too of course!

grungeisdead

Cheers Andy.

i sold my 250kpa map sensor fitted ecu to adzcm i think.

I've never considered it because the turbo route is easy, and sounds mint. If I was to supercharge, id go Eaton cheap to replace and should last for ages. Replacing with a charger as expensive as a g40 charger, isn't worth the expense if its as fragile or more so than a 40 lader.

plus 170bhp is faaaaaaar more than enough for everyday driving and hooning and I never damaged any clutches, cv's or driveshafts.

z3i

Ah sweet! Nice idea Andy :)

Yeah I thought about Eaton, but they rob so much power from the crank and I've yet to see one produce more than 220bhp

Turbo is good and is reliable/readily available parts makes it easy plus loads of info. But it's just a bit boring... There is nothing sweeter than toothies screaming through a tunnel!

I thought about lysholm, but £1500 for one.. Forget it

So g60 seems like a good option :) it does worry me with reliability, but I will service it quite often, and I plan on fitting a golf box like Pete, I want that brutal low down cv destroying torque :D
Thanks

Maybe a silly question but is the volvo steering rack compatible with the G?

grungeisdead

No sorry chap, it looked very very similar to a mk1 golf steering rack (and was sold as such) but upon removing my old one, I realised it wasn't (much to my annoyance!) and was actually stamped volvo on it!

Gayorzzzzzzz

grungeisdead

sorry to all those waiting on parts, everything is being stripped this week, and parts will be out before the end of the week.

Many thanks

grungeisdead

oil cooler was posted for Dave (1982mk1) and he has got it now

banded steelies, helix paddle and g60 injectors gone off to AdzCM and arrived safe and sound.

I have taken a deposit for the PSD exhaust and KW springs. The buyer has a week to get back to me otherwise his deposit will be lost and the parts will be readvertised.

still got loads here - having a bit more of a clearout, other bits for sale after a change of heart on a few of the cars. Turned old before my time and bought a bavarian barge
