Afternoon Chaps,

I was just wondering how most of you go about maintenance on engine bays and all other typical welding fixes. I cannot afford to take my G off the road as its my daily. And i have managed to stay away from garages thus far.

Its had a grand total of 11 owners and now me, so it was in a bit of a state when i got it. Engine is running sweet thanks to a lot of you and when i muster up the £150 for gearbox service i will be putting that in and taking the GT box off.

But from peering under the car i can see the rear axle needs servicing and both rear drums replacing. I have a spare wings/doors/boot to put on it. but don't want to do that until i know the rest of the car is solid.

where should i be looking on the shell to ensure its not going to collapse in half over the winter?

although cheeky van to re house it.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Polo-van-mk2f-project-/161136270774?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2584785db6

Thanks

I know the owner of the van its solid an hes looked after it aswell mate as it was his daily driver! Looks really nice when all cleaned up piks dont do it justice!

physicsfool

Yeah nice chap, Would it be fairly easy to lift and pop the G engine in? he says that's what he had in beforehand?

Otherwise which engines would anyone recommend. bearing in mind finances are low

PeteG40

Haha ye was a quality sleeper.
Am dude in blue tshirt an the one in the engine bay with my ass showing lmao

physicsfool

Would you say the gt engine pulls alright? Is it more economical then a g?

gaz g40

GT engines are strong an simple to fix if needed. G40s can be good on juice if your sensible an tootle round! Then youv got that umph if you need it :)

physicsfool

Yeah I get around 40mpg in my G, I may have bought the van. So deciding whether to pop my G engine in while I do up the bodywork on my G or pop something else(cheap and simple) in

physicsfool

Just wanted to get peoples opinion on this roof damage. Front end damage? All the panels line up. but wasn't sure

sleag40

If not front end damage then clattering over a good sized pot hole can do this.

physicsfool

Yeah I saw your build thread with the front end damage. Alright well I will keep an eye on it

quiksilver_jake

I bought the charger off it a few months back, seemed tidy enough to me...

physicsfool

Yeah i have the shell now. Just needs a bit of welding and a paint and i will pop the engine across.
