Car insurance
« on: August 29, 2013, 07:13:59 pm »
My Insurance is up for renewal next month and i want to be honest with my policy for once
ive never declared any of my mods and i told them i only do 5000 miles a year... when i did over 2500 in one week :(

so to save myself the ball ache of the car getting stolen and only getting a £500 payout when ive spent over £5000 on the car. can anyone recommend i DECENT insurance company. one that will allow mods with an agreed value

by decent i dont mean any of the shit you get on compare the retard. i have to deal with insurance companys every day and the likes of swift cover are a complete joke. we get brand new 13 plate cars in at work and the insurance company will only pay for pattern parts. even on stuff like a new s5. youll probably be having tong yang parts fitted (and yes that is an actual company)

anyone had some good experience with company's?

cheers guys

Sky were always cheap for me, but shite when I wanted agreed value. For some reason they were fine for Yoof - living round the corner (at the time), working at same place, and younger with less NCB - but I think I got a retard on the 'phone and that was it!

I'm with Greenlight now as they were hungry for the business, and a sensible (IMO!) agreed value was no sweat.

Brentacre, HIC, Adrian Flux etc. are all worth trying, as are any other specialist brokers you can think of. If you want the best price be prepared for a lot of ballache ringing round everyone to find out who likes your risk and wants your custom. I've rarely stayed with the same insurer on the Polo for more than 3 years to keep my premium as low as possible.

Others experience may differ - so ring around!

Im with Brentacre and there really good.

Got my audi and g40 with them on a shared no claims discount which they dont usually do. £50 for polo and £65 for audi.

If your car doesnt have an alarm they wont cover it past 2k though.

So far so good for me with Brentacre. Pick up the phone and you're speaking with people on first name terms, always keen and able to help. Shop around first though and see if they'll match the price. If I've got one complaint it's that their renewal prices are astronomical, but they're prepared to match it if you have a lower one.

Honestly though you get what you pay for with insurance companies. Check the small print and make sure it suits you. Too many people shop through these price aggregator websites and go on the price of the premium without looking at what they're getting for it. It's all very well saving £100 on your insurance but if you double your excess and need to claim then it's a bit of a pyrrhic victory.

Yep, always check the small print!

On one of my other cars I had an £85 drop in premium by bumping the excess up by £100. So £100 down if I have a crash, but if I don't £85 up. Seemed like good odds to me!

Herts are a pretty good bet as well, especially on agreed value.
