the Lysholm polo
« on: July 24, 2013, 04:47:52 am »
Hi guys and girls, just though i would whip up a quick thread on my recent purchase because it has quite a story from the past 4 weeks lol
Basicly you have probably seen this in the for sale section and there is probably a few people on here that know more about this car than i do but here we go...
saw this on here a long time ago for sale for about £1500 or something, i thought that would be perfect for the mk1 polo project (g40 conversion planned) i have because i didn't want to destroy a genuine g40 shell, but basicly i didn't have enough money at the time, it then vanished only to pop up on my facebook news feed this year, a friend of mine had purchased it for £1800 or something, i swapped it for my audi a4 tdi (good car but i've wanted a g40 too long to care lol)

my friend sam sent it through an MOT and it came back with a tragic THREE pages of fail  :-\
i don't have that list infront of me but i'll run through the obvious thing i would have to sort:

Door handles broken (exterior)
front wheel bearings gone
top mounts gone
front shocks gone
front springs cut
wheels hitting body
tyres bald
indicators not working
hazards not working
no washer bottle
front seats not fixed securely
exhaust leaks
no working handbrake
front and rear brakes not working sufficiently (imo at all)
no working horn
harnesses not fixed safely

not so important but had to be sorted:
fuel gauge not working
radiator hanging by cable ties

plus loads of little things just to tidy up

manifold welded VERY badly
half carpet was ripped and tatty
exhaust system made badly
lambda just hanging in engine bay
trims missing from interior
M3 wing mirrors

overall the only good parts of this car is, the engine works very well and the shell is very tidy

so i went to town within 5 days, cleared 90% of the list and got her looking:

changed the front suspension setup for a safer H&R cup kit, sprayed the front mount satin black and put my classics on

Your brave, that advert made the car look like an utter shed!  Be good if there is something there to salvage and you can turn it around!

admittidly it was a shed, but the engine works fine and the shell is tidy, just everything else needs a tidy up which i'm willing to do, alot of potential and will be a brilliant little car when i'm done i hope lol but yeh sounds like an air raid siren lol
