To stick with it or break?
« on: June 24, 2013, 09:11:49 pm »
Hi guys,

Just in a two minds at the moment, perhaps someone here can talk some sense to me?

I've had my G40 for around 10 years, I took it off the road around 8 years back to get her resprayed, she had all new VAG wings and everything. This all got done and then the head gasket blew!

Anyway, life was rather busy at the time so it just stood in the garage and not much has happened since. I've taken the head off and it needs a rebore etc etc...

These days other projects seem to take priority but I'm unsure on if I should keep her and finished her or sell on the shell and parts off separately.

I just don't know!

Few memories:

Here she is just as she was getting fitted back up

Ready to go home!

Its all to do with time and money.
Have you got time to do it?
Will you one day/forseeable future have time to fix it?
or do you have money to pay someone to fix it?

Looks like its in a good workshop area.

G40's can be/are class little cars, there's no doubt its worth the effort, just whether you can afford (both timewise and cost wise) that effort.

Keep it and finish it off, once done and you drive it again you'll not regret it.

Whereabouts are you based?

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I think the problem is of time!

If I do decide to sell up, I won't be selling panels off the car, she will go as one. Far too much of a good shell for this. It has zero rust!

My plans are to get some track time in and I've just recently bought a new toy (JDM Integra type r) so still very much in two minds.

Another thing to think about is since 8years plus ago G's now seem more popular as track toys... and also with mods like PPP's stage 3 frame, and turboing common a G has more potential...

If you can afford to hold it, hold it. If you can't, sell it to someone who will finish it  like       (Pete G40 ?). Whatever you do don't be a G killer. Half the folk on here are slicing and dicing them.

god don't sell it pete.  It'll just sit in a garage for about 6 years.

Thought I would add a bit more to this post after having a bit of time to think.

It looks like the G and I are going to have to part after 11 years. Sadly with a new project, finished off my first home and other work commitments, I just don't have the time to give her any attention.

I will list something in the FS section but it will be very brief.

Thanks all for your replies
