Well i looked for my old post but couldn't see it.  Basically it discussed clutches that were really stiff and creaked/cracked when pressed.  I decided to buy some 'white lithium, non drip grease' and apply it around the clutch arm as it enters the box.  I also carefully directed some through the inspection hole with the nozzle towards the release bearing.  Sounds drastic but it can be done, obviously dont go over board as you obviously dont want it on the clutch itself but after a few days the clutch is silky smooth!  I think after a few days the grease has worked its way down the release arm and lubricated it.  The important thing though is getting the non drip stuff as spraying something like wd40 just washes away straight away and in any case that cleans so it will probably make it feel worse!  Also apply it when the engine/box is warm so the grease flows better and apply it a few times over a few days.

I can't guarantee this will work for eeryone but mine was stiff and rough and i hated driving the car for it so gave this a shot and its really smooth now.. so i thought id mention it..ideally all this should be applied when the box is out really but hey its worth a shot!

Got the grease from Hellfrauds for about 5 quid, big tin with a directing straw, ideal for the inspection hole.

where abouts in the flywheel inspection hole?

So your trying to squirt the shaft the clutch runs on?

Roughly how big a spray did you spray on? lol

Bit of a thread resurrection, but I just wanted to thank Supercharged Spaniel for the topic, as following the steps above my clutch is now great, whereas previously it would creak and be slightly notchy.
I didn't spray through the inspection hole as I couldn't get the can/straw in the right position. Just sprayed on and around the arm pivot - with the pedal pressed and not pressed. It improved quite well initially and I kept spraying it every couple of days until after about 2 weeks it was perfect. It's been the same for the last 6 weeks without a relube, so am very happy.

Thanks Supercharged Spaniel!
