what is the purpose this valve and pipework labeled as 1 in this drawing, as mine has been blanked of at the throttle body and at the t pice bit of pipework comeout out of the isv into the inlet manifold.
 just wondered what it did as ive seen a few blanked of. thanks

I assume you are talking about the purge valve. This is to do with emissions; on a MK2 petrol vapour from the fuel tank vents out of the filler. On a MK3 it's a closed system to avoid allowing fuel vapour into the atmosphere. The vapour is absorbed by the carbon canister in the drivers side inner wing (under front of air box). When the car is running the purge valve allows the fuel vapour to be drawn out of the carbon and burnt in the engine. The various blanked off pipes are to do with controlling when the valve operates (must not open at idle as mixture will be badly affected) and allowing the vapour into the manifold. If it's all been removed you probably don't have the carbon canister either. It's important not to block off the tank vent itself or the tank may collapse when the car is running.
