Oil leak from dipstick

I have a oil leak from my G,
There is oil coming out the top of the dipstick when car is on load but not at idle or when you rev it when standing still. If you slowly take it up to speed it is ok, but if you nail it then there is an oil patch when you stop.
A lot of people said it was a choked breather, so i took all the breather system off and made sure there were no blockages (non found).
Tried changing head gasket, still no joy.
Would this be a blocked oil port in the block?
Anyone had this problem before?

when you say you took the breather system off, which parts did you clean out?  did you actually remove the pressed in pod from the back of the block and clean the gauze inside that?

grayg40

Yup the gauze that is pressed in to the block was taken off/ cleaned and no shit present and replaced the pod filter thingee.

could be excessive crankcase pressure caused by blow-by?  Try doing a compression test and/or leak down test if you can.

Is your breather system totally standard or going to a catch tank of some sort?

grayg40

sorry i forgot to mention i did a comp test and it seemed okay.
Yes i still have the original breather system on the car

hayesey

when you say ok, what readings did you get?

grayg40

No 1 & 2 were about 8 and a half bar and 3 & 4 were 7 and a half. i dont think its broken rings cause the comp would be down more than 1 bar and the car runs fine apart from the oil leak.
I rebuilt the engine 2years ago and replaced rings, shell bearings, reground the valve seats, stem seals and all the gaskets. This was at 190k and now at 223K.

that compression is shite, it should be more like 10 - 12 bar.  6 bar is the minimum limit.  I dare say you're problems are due to excessive blow-by.  but a leakdown test might show you where the problem lies.  If you disconnect the oil breather you'll hear air blowing out of it when doing the test.

I know its on the low side but come on it has done a fair bit of miles. I think i will have to change the rings again for just now. If that cures the problem, i will just have to save some penny's and get her rebored to the 1342cc spec. Unless i get my hands on another engine.

hayesey

one of the cylinders on mine is around 7 bar and when I did a leak down test you can hear air getting past and out of the oil breather.  The other 3 cyls are 10+ bar.

Sounds like the bores are worn like you say.  I currently have a spare bottom end for mine which I'm building up and will put in, in a couple of weeks time.  Just staying standard bore for now but will probably 1341cc the bottom end I'll take out.
