Ok, work has begun on the car! with a few other bits and bobs I will need some help with later just a quick question for now.

Can I remove the carbon pot that sits in the wing without removing the boost return pipes?
What does it do there?
Do I have to replace it with anything?
And finally, if I put my air filter in there, will the air be cool and clean? any quieter in there too??

p.s I know the planel there is very bent and a little rusty so will be taking it out to spray anyway!

Yeah you can take it out and block the pipes off although not having done this I'm not sure where exactly you should block it. I think it's job is to reduce emissions absorbing fumes from fuel vapour. A bit like charcoal in a fish tank absorbing chemicals. I can't see why you couldn't put your air filter down there and I'd think it would be cold too as it's right down low. The charcoal filter is surprisinlgy long! So there's plenty room to mount the airfilter low down out the way.

I got ETKA, so just need to block those 2 things up with the plugs?

What about the pipe that goes to the side of that saucer?

3 pipes and only 2 plugs?

Wasnt there a guide to take this off on the old g40 site?

remove the charcoal canister and the purge valve (the flying saucer effort).  Then block up any vacuum pipes left over.  Leave the larger transparent tube open to vent to air as this is the fuel tank breather. 

I have my airfilter down there, it's secured to the bumper iron and the foglight hole is cut open to get some airflow in.  Then I have the front part (with the top and back part cut off or they catch my wheels) of the arch liner in so that the wheel isn't covering the air filter in crap.

Awesome guys thanks! Means I can get rid of that MASSIVE heat shield too.
fingers crossed it will make the cockpit a bit quieter cause its brutally loud atm.
Any filters you recommend or just keep my blue jabba one?

I just connected the two pipes together, reckon any fumes will go to the plenum chamber. Seems to work OK.

Quick note:Winter is on it's way(though the summer is no different) so always be alert to deep standing water if your placing your filter(or intake) nearer to the ground. 

Despite that concern I do believe its the best setup though as you your taking it away from the hot air under the bonnet, getting rid of any dirt collecting scruffy looking heatshields you may have and of course guranteeing nice clean cool fresh air for your inlet.  Don't worry about getting ram air, just make sure there is plenty breathing space around the filter and that it can't sit in any trapped water if your driving through lots of spray etc(ie don't completly box it in, make usre it can drain ok.

Ah, didnt think of slashing water. Not cutting the bumper yet (brand new) and when I do it will probs be for foggies (i have a master plan to get some for cheap) So will it be getting enough air down there, without the cut bumper?

yep I've sucked up water in mine once when going through a huge puddle that turned out to be huger than I thought!  the engine cut out but fortunately no damage was done and it started again after a bit of trying, then lots of steam from the exhaust and a misfire while it cleared out.  But there's potential to damage the engine if it sucks up a lot of water (hydrolock), since I dont use my car all the time I'm not worried, I don't generally drive it on rainy days if I can avoid it.

Haha, i nearly got stuck once in my old red G going through walsall nr brum or somewhere when it flooded a road.  Decided it was best to pull up first as it was getting deeper and disconnected the filter hose from the charger inlet and proceeded verrrry slowly through the water.
