Psd (newman) Eaton specification camshaft: Setup information

Thought i'd post this up for anyone thats got a car running a psd eaton cam.

Regarding cam timing. There is a long and short way. Unless you have the head off the engine, even if you have a vernier, time the cam up as if it were OE item as the only way to determine true TDC accuratly is with a dial gauge on the piston crown and marking TDC as a blueprint. The OE tdc mark is accurate to 2-3 degrees and you also need a dial gauge to find full exhaust valve lift on the tapper bucket. The timing for that cam is 110'  BTDC. Oe cam is 113'. One tooth of a cam belt is equiv to 8'. Set it up to stock unless you have a blueprinted engine. Many folks with vernier pulleys don't know there ass from their elbow and try and dial cam timing in with the arbitory graduation marks on pulley and oe plus/minus 3' oe marks, like setting a Bridgeport with metre rule.

Fit cam without lifters first and check lobes clear head casting. You may have to relive 1-2mm on tappett buckets to allow for exhaust lobe clearence if you head is a poor casting, most are fine, 1 in 10 need a bit of minor work.
Fit the cam and timing belt etc and turn engine by hand to check that if all  valves clear pistions. The only car I've ever had issues with was one with a head that had been skimmed too much and valves kissed pistons at high rpm.

Well i now have a newman eaton cam and the neccesary eprom chips to test the eaton kits, i'm just waiting on the 4 branch manifold and then i'm ready to start putting my setup together.

I just put this info up to help anyone with one of these cams as quite a few people have asked before and there's been no clear answer.

i just exploded with joy lmao  i,ll try this i,ll have to invest in a dial gauge me thinks. i have had the valves kissing the pistons on my engine but everything i,ve tried has not worked so far but i will try this  thanks
