Hi there..  first of all, i apologise my very bad english because i'm Portuguese..
My name is Rui and i have one G40.. it's my first car and it's fantastic 
i bought it for 2000€ with 183.000 Km...  after many modifications the part of chassis as broken ( i don't know how it calls in english but in portuguese it calls " longarina " )   
but i fixe'd up all of that all problems 
i will try put some pic's of my G

Sounds like you had the shassis fatigue. Broken leg on the left hand side.
I scrapped a shell because of broken shassy leg.
