2 pieces of tubular welded to the beam and a triangular piece of steel welded in between.
on top is a rear arb of a astra gte16v

I'm unsure what cornering force is required to alter the geometry of the rear wheels though, go-pro and a trackday required!

i read a piece on clubpolo about skoda felicia arbs being mounted to the rear beam (mikeymk)
He took two of them and sandwiched them up and under the beam and bolted them on.
Look how stiff the rear end became.


I wonder how it will look if you put a standard polo with one of of its front wheels put on a engine block and than a look at the rear

not really sure what that picture is trying to show, any polo will have the rear wheel in the air if it's jacked up that much

Indeed - that's a fairly worthless test.

I can jack my car on the subframe, 3 wheels come off the ground, doesn't make it a Ferrari... unfortunately!

What matters to me, is that the handling improved dramaticly.
The rear beam became so stiff, it was able to lift its inside wheel in turns, taken hard.
I thought if you lift a polo like that, that the rear beam will flex a bit, which this beam doesnt really do anymore.

the weight of the wheel alone isn't nearly enough to make the beam flex.

Matt- Needs an exhaust re-route really. I've got a little rig to try and quantify toe change during cornering. If it does, then I may try this.

I think you'd need to be on slicks to be flexing the beam a significant amount though (I may be wrong, as I have no data)

Also considering this, as I have to renew my brake lines and add nylon bushes so may aswell do it all at once.
