hi all, i have fitted a 252/276 schrick camshaft to my g40 and was wondering what the timing should be set at... standard timing is 6degrees+/-1degrees.... any help would be much appreciated.

ignition timing is 6deg before tdc +/-1deg.  That'll just stay the same regardless of cam.

so would this apply to all cams for the g40?  including this stupid eaton spec cam i,ve been tryin to fit for at least a year now?

on the ignition timing yeah, not necessarily on the cam timing though you'd need to ring the manufacturer about that.

Isn't the issue with the eaton cam that it hits the head casting?  That's not that unusual I've got a spare head here someone has had an aftermarket cam in and they've had to file bits of the head casting so that the lobes don't hit it.

the spark timing would be the same no matter the cam i assume?
it would be timing of the lift on the cam you would want to adjust which means a nice shiny new camshaft pulley which PPP do in some nice red and blue and maby gold /?

djtez

oh and i thought it was 5degree before tdc.. ?
wat it says in the old unfaithfull hanyes? dont it ?? ............

yeah you are right on the eaton spec cam the lobes do hit but its only just so you just have to use a dremel and file a lil metal off the buckets its really a very simple job and sounds worse than it is.
but i still cant time the bloody cam up right

I know this is an old thread but i was wondering whether this cam should be set up to standard g40 cam timing marks.

Or does it need advancing?

Thanks

I run mine with standard pulley. Only advanced ignition timing.

Hi I've been thinking about getting a schrick cam for my 40, did you see some good gains in power? And how was the drivability? Thanks.

Jezza-7

You can tell when its in the "power band" as you hear exhaust note change around 3k for me. Power difference, i couldnt tell as i had a lot done as once.

I've also been looking at the Newman cams and even piper cams. Has anyone heard anything about these?
