Does anyone know where I could buy a 256mm brake kit? I haven't got time to piss about in scrapyards and finding bits here, there and everywhere. I can't remember part numbers etc. Basically I'm after a kit I can buy and fit. I don't mind sourcing them from different places, as long as someone can provide links/ phone no's. I don't mind second hand parts either, I'm happy to service calipers, etc. I just don't want to waste time (working A LOT recently) I haven't got at the mo looking for stuff that I'm not sure about, lol. I need new disks and pads as it is so thought I may as well upgrade at the same time.

I'm running 14" wheels so can't go mad. I was looking at the TSR kit, is that any good or not?

Any other kits? I'll spend up to about £300 ish and don't mind collecting within a reasonable distance of Worcester.

I realise this is basically a wanted ad, but I haven't really found any info on here (there's references here, there and everywhere- but nothing substantial) and think it would be good to put into the FAQ once there's a bit of info built up!

4 choices

TSR for their 270mm spacer kit
Rallye Design for a wilwood 4 pot kit
Vauxhall 256 brakes (scrappy or ebay)
256mm brakes from a rare late 80s audi or scirocco 16v (which are also rare) - either second hand or maybe new for the carriers.

Just for information, 256mm VW carriers are no longer available from VW unfortunately.

yes, although you might have to use spacers with some wheels.  I do with my 14" Ronal wheels.  It's the size of the calipers that is the problem, they are huge and can foul the inner hub of the wheel.

Matty!

My car is running a 256mm brake kit, so im assuming the vauxhall disks will fit straight on or do different kits run different disks?

And heres an uneducated me thinking Lupo GTI disks would fit fine.

I've run the TSR 270 kit for a few thousand miles now and am very happy with it. Plenty of feel with it too. You have to ditch your back plates and there's a tiny bit of angle grinding required, but well worth it.

Scotsjohn you got any pictures o the kit fitted? Bit vague on the website thats all. You still using the standard 239mm g40 calipers?

No pics. mate; it's pissing down outside so I'm not going to pull a wheel in that. The kit uses your existing callipers, just steps them away from the centreline by 30mm and makes a lateral shift to accommodate the new discs. Job can be done with the struts in place.

You got any pics of yours? im thinking of getting some for mine when I get round to doing the brakes, can you use golf 16v mk2 discs at all?

breadman

Is it possible to make a set of spacers that utilise the standard G40 caliper/carrier assembly and VAG 256mm discs?

Phil

Probably, but looking at the tsr bracket the bolt holes would be a little close possibly?

Stinky Pete is looking at making 256 kits using mk4 golf calipers with disks for around £60 if people are interested.
