g40 pistons?
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:18:11 pm »
just wondering if i would be able to get hold of forged pistons for the g40 engine without getting the block boared out to 1341 or more? can you get hold of forged 1272cc pistons?

you'll most probably find that forged 1272cc piston will be near enough the same price as 1341cc pistons so it makes sense to go for 1341's.

I would imagine they would be exactly the same price since same amount of work to produce them.  Getting a block bored out by 2mm doesn't cost much really so you might as well go 1341cc.

this is the situation i'm in too really.

Don't think my compo will stretch to a 1341 rebuild plus fitment of eaton kit (and purchase!)

If the pistons cost £500, whats the likely cost of getting the re-bore etc ? I've still go to find someone to fit my eaton cheapily so i can afford to get it remapped.

How come you dont want to fit the eaton kit yourself? can't be that hard :)

If it goes wrong, i have some comeback! lol. I wanted to get it fitted ad remapped it one go so seemed the sensible option.

I think a rebore is about £70-100 but obviously that doesnt include a rebuild.  A rebuild will vary on what they replace... i.e. oil pump/knock sensor/sump etc.

As for fitting the eaton.  Well if its not their kit and it does go wrong i'd assume they'll blame the kit design anyway!!!

it's a pretty simple job for a machine shop to do as long as they have a big enough milling machine.  It's only a 2mm overbore.

Yeah if you supply a completely stripped down bare block to a decent engine machine shop, it won't cost much. Reboring/honing is a standard procedure for them and shouldn't be more than £25 per bore.
