Some might know do do a 16v conversion using the mk2/3 flywheel you need to use the 'slim' version of a mk2/3 starter motor to clear the block. These are almost eBay 'rare' so I've been looking at seeing if I could get a supply of them.

I'm in talks with a company at the moment who can make a some uprated items but I just wanted to know if you guys had any specific issues with the standard starter motor ones? Mainly to see if there was a market for them as I guess there will be some cost in getting them produced.

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works Mark... but would it be easier to lighten the standard AFH fly and use the normal AFH starter? Or can the standard AFH fly not be made as light as the Mk3 item?

no that's cool! :)

Looking at the mk4 one its almost double the width of the Mk3 one. So I don't think it would be possible to get it to the same weight as a Mk3 one. The lightened mk3 one I have on is 4.2kg down from 5.2

Presume it's the ring gear that's different from the mk3 to mk4? If so can you not swap the gear?

Guess you can't get the correct starter from VW?

There is a mod that MikeyMK has done using the body from the mk4 Polo Starter and the internals of a Mk2 golf I think.

The 'slim' starter is NLA from VW. I have found somewhere I think I could order them from but I was just looking to get a uprated starter in its place and I didn't know if you guys any specific need for such an item! :)
