Went to check my levels yesterday as i hadnt looked in 2weeks so popped the bonnet to find that the last time i topped the coolant up, i either didnt put it back on or just didnt do it tight enough so the expansion tank lid was missing! I really mustve been asleep as i'm usually quite anal about checking things over and over again to make sure they're right. I'm just wondering now how long ive been driving around with the lid off for.

Got the other half to pick a new one up at VW for me as i didnt fancy driving 15miles without one (although i had been to work and back 3 times - 60miles already! £7.96 later and i have a nice new lid for my expansion tank.

did wonder why my engine was taking so long to get to temperature! I suppose its not bad that ive only lost 1 cap in 10+ years of motoring.

yeah, thats what i thought. The temperature never got above 70 so i must've been lucky.
