Hi guys, tried stripping my spare engine down today but got stuck on the head bolts. The local Halfords didn't have the part and hoped you guys would know of a place i can get my hands on one and the exact name for it. The bolts look identical to the ones in my old Passat Gt, but that was many years ago and you know how little tools go missing with a few moves of address.
Thanks

try gsf and ask for specific g40 head bolts, as they are a bit shorter than other polo's

If you mean the tool for these, then you need a 12mm spline tool. Sealey sell a good bit set, which spares can be purchased individually for. Otherwise Draper also do a set very similar.

like this..

other way round genuine g40 bolts are slightly longer and higher tensile rated.gsf won't sell genuine g40 ones either vw only fir these or maybe bartek

Andy

Bartek ones are the wrong length too, but almost as expensive as VW.

PeteG40

a company called BGA do g40 spec ones.. they are 10.9 tensile strength and 98mm length

dub-disaster

Where can you buy these bga ones from Pete ?? Where the g40 ones 10.9 or 12.9??

PeteG40

g40s are 10.9.   i got em from ebay!

I bought 10 from VW yesterday just for ease. They say there was only 19 left in the UK, and once gone that will be it! So anyone who wants some there is now only 9 left somehow....

It seems lots of Engine parts are now obsolete too :(

PeteG40

tbh, what matters is whether they have them in germany or not, not vw uk.  They can get them on back order from germany... its when they go obsolete you need to worry!

Weeman

Yeah he said they were obsolete, once the uk ones are gone they couldnt get anymore. The parts guys are normally fairly good here as they managed to soucre me a lower rear cornor that was meant to be obsolete. It came from somewhere in uk that had it on the shelf, it was one of four left but had been written off the stock as slow moving parts.

Spark plugs are the same, they had 16 of them left in the UK, but once gone that was it as obsolete in germany too.
