Willwood brakes

Hi lads,

I was looking into willwood brakes and I was wondering how easy it is to switch over??

So anyone who has done the conversion could tell me,

Can you run 239mm discs?
Do they bolt straight on or do you need a bracket/adapter?
Is there anywhere where you can buy a whole kit??

answers in the same order as questions:

- with the correct carriers you'll be able to but I'm not sure where you'll get them from.  If you are wanting to do this to keep 13" then I'm not sure it'll be possible anyway as the calipers are very large

- you need a carrier/bracket

- RallyDesign, it's for a mk1 golf gti but they had the same brakes as a g40

It's a relatively easy swap, you do need to grind a small amount of metal off either the bracket or the bearing carrier or else they foul.  Then you need to do something about the brake lines as polo ones arent long enough.  I just made up some small adaptors with some solid brake line and a bracket.  Or if you are going to get new flexi hoses then just get some longer golf ones.

From some rough calcs and measurements I've done, the smaller diameter discs if anything causes more of a headache with the centre of the rim catching.

13" rim will fit a 256mm wilwood caliper/carrier if it's the correct offset, which I think is in the region of ET0... 

I want to go to 13" for track, as tyres are alot cheaper, and slicks are readily available

I have got 14's on so will I be able to run 256mm without the use of spacer's??

I was only wondering about using 239mm is because I have just bought a decent set of grooved/drilled discs.

Also i have braided flexible hoses so they should reach the calipers hopefully.

I'm guessing the bracket comes with the kit as well?

Those 13's are going to look very full yoof   but surely you are going to get serious wheel spinning with 13's even with a lsd??

Not with sticky rubber  Although I imagine it will still spin!

Super sticky rubber may help..  But still let us know how it goes when you get round to running this setup. Should be fun with the amount of power your running

it depends on the inner shape of the wheels and the offset of the wheels but it is highly unlikely.

ive got a few sets of wilwood calipers in boxes at home. which ones were you looking at? ive dynalite 1052 and 1056 i think. no carriers tho.

How big spacers are we talking hayesey? 10 or 15mm?

well it's going to be different for every different wheel but my 14" require at least 8mm ones.  The kit from RD came with some 6mm spacers which I just use on the back.  I've got 10mm on the front now because they were the smallest I could find at the time which are hub centric.
