Well went down for a few bits and as the new guy was taking forever someone gal asks "what is a G40"

so all of them want a go and they are like, oh its supercharged polo

then the manager woman gets the talkin stick and goes on saying

"yeah nice little cars, get it on motorway and the fuel guage goes down as the speed goes up"

i didnt reply i just kept shut

so then she comes out with more

"oh yeah when they came out they didnt sell well at all, and they had to recall them as there were found to have rotten front chassis legs"

i just stood there, i wish i had of said

"your talkin shite"

recall them all as they had rusty chassis legs? so what did they do when they recalled them? just fix the rusty legs lol

gsf is like mcdonalds really...

hayesey

it's true they never sold well, £11k in 1991 for a polo, no wonder!

fucks knows what they're on about with the chassis legs though

tdh-syorks

Too many cups of coffee so caffine levels are on a all time high for them to talk bollox all day long.
i wonder what they did with all them rusty chassis legs?  ???

supercharged spaniel

i dont think i could have not said anything...monkies.

supercharged spaniel

in fact i had an arguement with a dick in a petrol station behind the counter who tried to tell me that the fuel tanks were much bigger on them.. as far as im aware they are exactly the same...even though he had never seen one before he had 'just heard'

hayesey

lol, bigger fuel tanks... no more room for a bigger tank!

I guess there must be lots of rumours going about

tdh-syorks

maybe if you mounted an oil drum in the back and got it piped up, tho thats just stupid. possible but stupid :o

G40supercharged

I have a stamp for a recall in my G40 service book. "recall 47D8 29/3/1993" It wasn't just done at a service so I guess it was something fairly serious.

GSBellew

Vosa only have one recall listed for Polo's between 92 and 94 (can only go back as far as 92)
QuoteConcern :   BRAKE PIPES MAY CHAFE ON OTHER COMPONENTS
Description :   On the subject vehicles it is possible that the brake pipe holder may not have been correctly positioned on the steering rack. This could allow the brake pipe to chafe on adjoining components and cause pipe damage.
Remedial Action :   Recall the affected vehicles and if necessary modify the position of the pipe holder and pipes to eliminate the possibility of the pipes chafing on other components.
Vehicle Id :    80MY000001 to 80PY024118

Sounds like that's probably what the recall was for. That VIN range covers Mk3 Polos from start of production to somewhere in 1993 which fits with the recall date.

that's nothing to do with rotten front chassis legs though.  I believe there were one or two g40s even back in the day when they were relatively new which suffered cracked chassis legs.  I have heard stories but they are no more than rumors I guess.  But it makes sense, there are certainly g40s about which do have cracked legs and I've seen pictures of some which look like they've probably been damaged for years.
