Cam cover gasket specific g40

I remeber Reading that cam covet gaskets are v40 specific I got one gasket with y headset I bought from gsf just wondered what's the difference is it somthing tiny and insignificant or do I definantly need the correct g40 gasket ??

they have a metal insert in them on the flats... not essential no - but much better quality. However they are like £25 from vw!

When i got one from euro car parts it lasted about 5 mins. It was the correct one, so they said.

How much are they from GSF? I just got one from vw, cost me £16.70 plus vat.

yeah they dont wobble about when you fit them. At vw i said - man... they are dear! the mechanic behind parts guy said to me - yeah they are all shit so use blue gasket on them and reuse your old one! so thats what i do

when you say blue gasket do you mean like blue hylomar stuff and you just slap some on both sides of the gasket before fitting it ??

ye i had this trouble when i last had my g in bits got new gasket from pages i think and just straight leaked out, so used some instant gasket stuf wich worked for a bit but it dosent set so pushed it out eventualy, so got some werthsilicon sealer and that worked a treat
