hi has anyone used a gt gearbox on a g40 before......?

im doing a gt to g40 turbo conversion and have kept my gt gearbox as its in good nick and i thought the shorter ratios would give me better accelleration (Not bothered for top end speed or longer final drive), but was wondering if there are any implications in using it?    i understand that it prob wont stand up to every day abuse, but the car will be used for dry weekends only so shouldnt be too bad.

an also is it possible to fit an LSD that are designed for the ATV boxes?

any help would be much appreciated.

Tommy.

My  mate uses a GT box in his Squareback G40T. He actually preferes it over the ATV

it's possible to fit an LSD to them yes, the crown wheels are bolted on.  It should be just as strong as an ATV (not that that's saying much!).  The problem is you find you're having to change gears almost faster than you can.  Just try it out and see how you get on with it.

I've run mine on a GT box for a while and its not too bad, goes through the gears mentally.
The turbo keeps spooled up better too...against another certain G40 turbo running more boost and an ATV box there wasn't alot in it.
Only problem is that the ratios are so short, 1st gear is especially annoying as it 5th gear for top end but I think in certain situations and definatly certain tracks it would have the advantage over the ATV box.

Im putting a rebuilt ATV back on very soon though so I will report back once I have a good comparison.
