Hi there,
Can someone tell me if there were differences between the mk1 and early mk2 polo front struts and later mk2 polo and mk3 ones.
I been having problems with connecting the steering arms on my g40 since ive built it back up from a thousand and one polo parts i have collected over the past 6 yrs.
Since its been so long being a pile of parts, I think i have used mk1 struts on the g40 and chucked the old mk3 ones i had in the bin and tried to connect it all using mk3 steering rack and tie rods.
I think the steering brackets are welded at a different angle on the mk1 to the mk3. Can anybody confirm this?

Sounds like there is a difference with what you have but do bear in mind that some drive shafts are slighly
different lengths depending on Year and some Gearbox`s.
Nick_S on here is good with all that as he as studied the MK2 & MK2F`s in this area.

At the weekend I took both struts off the car to compare with each other and sure enough they were different.

When i stood above and looked down from the top of the strut the correct mk3 one is set up so the tie rod bracket runs parallel with the hub.
The incorrect one however ran off at an angle to the hub meaning a longer tie rod would be needed to reach the bracket.
Im not sure what the incorrect strut has come off. I can only asume that as ive been sorting through polo parts for the bin ive mixed up mk3 parts and early mk2 parts from an old coupe i scrapped.
Its all sorted now, grabbed a mk3 drivers side strut from the scrappies and now all my steering is set up fine woop woop
