ive just bought my first g40 coming from a polo gti and i must say that i love the g40!
a few things tho!
it has tarox discs with what i think are golf calipers with ebc red stuff pads, all this stuff is fairly new however the brakes seem absolutely crap to the point were there dangerous, has anyone else had this with ebc stuff??
and my battrey tray has rusted through and i dont know what to do  :-[ i have never welded before and dont know wether to take it to a body shop or a garage and much will this cost??
and is the boost return mod worth doing
cheers guys

ive never been a fan of the EBC stuff although afew people swear by it. Ive got grooved disks and some pads i brought from ECP and with a fresh dose of brake fluid, they kick in real well.

the battery tray will need a small panel welding in ideally. Will be a garage job unless you can bung someone a fiver or so to weld it in for you ;) There should be some info on this either on here or CP. Not sure on garage prices. depends if you supply the metal yourself and just need the welding doing.

A fiver!!!  :D

Battery tray is quite a pain- dash out and carpet up to do it properly. A good days work minimum.

Try bleeding the brakes- the G40 servo is quite small, firstly try to put your foot through the floor with them, they might work  ;)

brakes are shit for the size/power of car.... better thana mk2 though!!!

you do get used to them.  they are crazy shit too when they are new and need bedding in

to be fair coming from a gti , you will prob need to use your gears more/ properly to help you to stop.  I agree with Jon ive always found ebc pads a waste of time, gutted for you about the battery tray mate.

As a temp fix, it is possible to fibrelass the battery tray.

awsome, well ive just got a new job at vw so ill be-friend some of the techs lol!
well my mate took it for a drive today and we were doing near 100 and then slowing down to get them really hot (seeing if there is any fade) but it seems its just ebc red stuff pads are a proper track pad and they need to be hot all the time. bummer! im just going to get some nice pads and fluid i think as its dangerous at the min

yeah red stuff aren't supposed to be road pads and need warming up to work.  I'd swap them for something more suitable for road use.

Definately. You need to push the pedal onto the actual road surface to stop at times flinstone stylee
