sorry again i took the car to jabba sport last week and the guy informs me my engine is breatheing to heavy. Now what im not sure about is what is causeing it and how do i solve it jabba sport gave me some ideas just wondered if you lot have any ideas thanks as always matt ;D ;D

if it's breathing heavily then it's possibly the piston rings worn out, what mileage is it on?  g40s do seem to breathe heavily in general though (which is why people tend to put 1" breather pipes to a catch tank on them) so perhaps not a worry?  Do a compression test and see what the score is.  Should get something like 120psi or more on each cylinder and you're looking for no more than about 10psi difference in each one.

im on my 3rd engine but the current engine has just passed 90.000

hardchargin40

3rd engine? :o :o  What on earth happened to the last two?

matthg40

melted the pistons because i was over boostin ooops the g60 injectors helped level it all out pmsl

g40chris

thats a reason why im breaking my car because i couldnt figure out the heavy breathing until i done a compression test and found it was losing compression when warm

Rich_G40

Sorry to be a nooby, but is it just a simple pistons out and new rings or do you have to go for pistons and rings (if the barrels are ok that is)

hayesey

it just depends why it's losing compression.  It might just need rings and a glaze break or it might have more damage.  Can't really tell till you've got the engine in bits.  Quickest way is to drop the pistons out of the bottom and inspect the bores from there.

You sure it was not your fueling causing the problems and you have now masked it with larger injectors? Have you had your fuel pressure and injectors checked? You may even have a leak in one of your boost pipes to your ECU or FPR. I doubt you could have a problem with "over boosting" as you put it with a G40 charger. What map are you running with your injectors?

It does sound like you should take your car to someone who can check the fueling system out. Melting pistons should not be a problem with an engine but if it happens points to something else (fueling/map most likely). The standard pistons only melt if they get too hot. This should not happen in a well set up engine.

Did you get your compression tested?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey, Hardchargin, not seen you in a long time! You keeping well bud? What you driving now? Still doing lots on the track?

Duck.

piston rings are fine as far as i can see  ??? ??? ???

Duck has it spot on mate.  You shouldn't be on your 3rd engine at all, get it fixed though quick before you use all spare G engine up before I get my hands on another :D ;D

As Duck said, make sure your white ECU hose to the ECU is in good condition, not blocked etc.  When you changed the engine, what did you carry over from the old one, and what was from the new one.  Sounds to me, like you should be able to track it down to what you are still using from your original engine ;)

Alright Duck, Im good.  Go faster/ track stuff - Doing the Sum total of Nowt at the mo besides driving a my daily 1.2 8v Punto past cadwell park everyday (I cry inside, everytime I pass it  :'( :D)  Have plans though... ;)

matthg40

im only useing the head off the old engine and thats been checked by an engineer

hardchargin40

So your using a new ECU, fuel system, injectors, ECU vacuum line etc etc then?

Sorry, just trying to get to the bottom of whats melting things.

matthg40

all sorted the breather at the back of the block was serverly kinked so i replaced it all with silicone hoses  ;D ;D ;D ;D
