as above really
i seen some on the charger bov and some one the boost pipe with the bov closed ect
buying my new k03 this weekend ;D
and looking for a actuator(its a forge i need is it as the k03 im getting says it has a adjustable actuators)
nice custom made ss manifold in 40mm tube aswell
ohh as for the oil take off on the head is it the one near the timing belt as it has a pressure sender in for my gauge just need a t piece yeah?

hayesey

dumpvalve needs to go somewhere along the boost pipes between the compressor outlet and the throttle body.

You'll need an adjustable actuator from forge if the turbo you've bought has the standard one.

Yoof

As close to the compressor outlet as you can get is good, less chance of compressor stall there, and it's more efficient.

hayesey

yeah mine is in a silicon t-piece right after the compressor outlet.

nikky

so il tee it off by the intercooler the turbo side ye?
looking at forge actuators and seen afew i need one for a passat 20vt do i
is a oil cooler needed on these small engines?
il get some off that foil heat reflective sheet and put it on the underside of the bonnet by the turbo so it saves my paint baking
hayesey is that a k03 in your pic??

hayesey

yeah it's the actuator for a k03 in a passat/audi a4 20vt you want.

An oil cooler is highly recommended yeah, possibly essential with a turbo putting heat into the oil too.  Make sure to get one with a thermostatic take off plate so the oil gets up to temp at the normal rate when the engine is cold.

yes thats my k03 in my picture.

VW_rae

why do you need the a forge actuator???

Where to put the dump valve?

Some say that it's best to have it close to the throttle, since that's where the back-pressure builds from when the butterfly is closed and it will respond quicker. Others say that it's better to put it as close to the turbo as possible so that the valve is venting hot air rather than post-intercooler cold air, so that the inlet pipes after the intercooler are still filled with cool air. Not a huge problem but if you put the dump valve turbo side of the intercooler, the hotter air will reduce the life of the rubber diaphram in the valve.

Why a Forge Actuator?

Because it is adjustable and you can change the springs in it to give different ranges of boost! Its also shiney  :D

And what if I put 2 BOVs, one after the turbine and one near to the throttle?

Vizor

no problem. you can put 10 blowoff valves if you want. if you have extra money to spend...
i sell 50mm blowoff with biggest ports in the world. 'turbosmart race port 50mm'
my opinion is that you need only one BOV closer to the throttle...
