Will my original Mk1 driveshafts be the same as a Mk2f G40?

dubstar

No one know? I don't want to buy a GT or G40 shaft if it's the same as I took off.

Does anyone know if all Mk2f shafts are the same??

Ross.

Hiya buddy I believe all mk3 shafts are the same yes but I have heard talk about the outer cv joints been strengthened from factory on the g40s but no part numbers to confirm that

Andy

Late-spec Mk3s had a different length shaft on one side if memory serves. Not sure whether early ones are the same as Mk1 or not.

Vagcat suggests that G40 shafts are a specific part.

The part number is the same. Perhaps the letters denote a price change on the same part.

they've always had a different part code but no one has ever seemed to work out why to my knowledge.  They appear identical in every way.

Thanks guys.  :)

I'm sticking with the standard mk1 LH shaft but have bought a Mk2f GT shaft for the RH side in case there is any difference.

broken all the joints down, cleaned & re-greased. Should be rate.

Time will tell eh?
