Title: Toothed belt fitment

Having some trouble with my newly purchased toothed belt kit
got the crank one on fine, and the charger one with the little spacer supplied
but how does the alternator one work, its got no woodruff key, so how do you tighten it up as i have nothing to grip it
also do you use the little shim thats originally on there or remove it? its pretty fat some will probably affect alignment

use a chain whip and bit of old belt- they will go on with woodruff removed. alignment is a bit trial and error tbh

When you say it's got no Woodruff Key, do you mean no slot in the pulley?

Yeah it hasnt got the slot. Thats the thing pete i cant use a chainwhip as there isnt a woodruff get to stop the pulley spinning if that makes sense, i used a chain whip to remove the old one no problems, but there is no way to grip anything

you can stop it spinning by carefully stopping the coil turning using yr finger or something until its more than finger tight and then use the whip

Ill have to try get a new bolt then as mine is tight all the way on,
give it a go then.

You'll still need a slot for a Woodruff Key milled in the pulley; about £40 to get mine done. Can I ask who supplied the pulley set Taylor?

According to bartek you dont need a woofruff key, i cant personally see that working as when under hard load itl probably slip, but i may be wrong

got it off ebay, a germen guy sells it, but its the same kit as bartek sells. The quality looks spot on, and theyve taken the effort to mill a keyway in the charger pulley, so there must be good reason they didnt do so in the alternator one.
will soon find out if it works though

Sam Used a g60 style kit with no keyway and was fine. The alternator isnt under that much tension either.

Yeah, probably should be OK. Mine had the wrong sized keyway which buggered the key and lead to alignment problems.

Sweet! Got it fitted, yeah your right pete, once its nippt up its tight enough to get the chain whip on it
it doesnt seem very well aligned though
have no spacers on any of the pulleys, yet it touches the right guide on the alternator and crank pulley, then is nearly all the way left on the charger pulley but not touching
this a problem? The little spacer you get for the charger one is only meant for g60's and with it on it touches the right side of the charger pulley

No the little spacer should be used, its bigger when u use a g60 lader

Dam it! Will it be ok for a few miles like it is?
when the spacer is on it touches the right side of the pulley guide though

my charger made some crazy ass noise at idle earlier, pulled over stopped the engine. Started it and at idle it was making a horrible noise, as soon as its revved a little bit above idle it goes away, then when it drops back down it starts again, and now its gone away completely. The only thing i could think is the belt catching as it vibrates alot at idle, but cant see anything and the noise sounded pretty bad, i tensioned it to the same as you would tension a cambelt
charger will have to come off again i suppose :/ though at idle it sucks a serious amount through the airbox so i dont think its broken

i bet you the toothy belt not tight enough - they skip teeth then it sounds like someone poured gravel in your lader.

they do stretch at first use.

Phew! I remember having that conversation with you about loose toothies causing horrible noise. Though when i tightened them i remember people saying dont do them tight like v belts, so i didnt. Looks like i didnt go tight enough though. Yeah it sounds exactly like throwing gravel in the charger!

my heart sank when i heart charger noise lol
thanks for calming my nerv as ive been panicking thinking what did could i have put together wrong in the charger
toothies sound amazing!
Also i may be taking my polo up when i next come round :D so you can pick holes in the rust

Dam, that noise was the belt catching the pointer, its ripped it off and damaged the belt, annoying as i pushed it down to ensure it would miss, and checked the belts wouldnt touch it
is the pointer replaceable as i cant see down there, does it just bolt on?
and where can i get a new toothed belt, the htd 20mm wide one, steel pulleys, mine is probably fine but i always worry too much about things

I want to put tension on the belt, when I turn on the lights whistles, how to do? I have a kit 5pk installed
