Hi,
I bought another spare charger a few weeks ago, just for the crack (got it for cheap luckily)
I took it apart today and cleaned to inspect and found this

Shall I add it to my spares pile or would it still be ok to run as a whole charger
Thanks
Rich

That is totally shagged. Is it pulley or outlet casing?looks like only... Shame got spare outlet.. But one pulley side needs some repair on the drain
-
Its the pulley side with timing belt etc
Yeah bit of a shame
What needs doing to the drain?
Would be nice to make a full charger
-
How would one manage to do that to their charger? do g laders just blow up when they feel like it?
-
There's a guy here in Portugal, who is also a user on this forum that can fix that!
I know it might be cheaper to get that part second hand, but his job is really amazing, you almost can't notice that it was broken before.

rich, i'll get a pic of the drain!

TBH its only a spare charger but would be interesting to speak to him if you know who he is

My guess would be someone has tried to get an oil seal out with the incorrect tool? Or can the just weaken and break?
-
Ouch, yea your properly right about how it broke tho, then the bugger put it back together and stuck it on ebay!!! How much was cheap?
-
£70 yeah bit annoying but win some to loose some

Saw this for sale, nearly bought it :S

scrolls are usually worth 100-120 dep on condition... so not all lost
-
shweet yeah rest of its fine, just shame about the casing

my friend arun recently repaired a friends g60 charger where the groove had broken, slipped a piece of copper in between the grooves and tig'd it.
i suggested getting it tig'd as matt was originally thinking of chemical metal and i was like nooooooooooo
ill get some pictures up of the repair when i see him this week

PSD used to chemical metal chargers for people if a pikey bodge was all they could afford. I ran a slut charger that was held together like that for a while, just relied on the intercooler strainer to catch any bits that fell out...

Problem with any big weld, wouldn't like any excessive heat going through them for fear of warping.. Or if you weld, the mill out, its a compound radius
-
sounds pikey lol as i say its only a spare so unless i blow mine up i wont worry too much, :)
cheers for the input though guys :)

I ran my g60 blower like this for years without issues .. The power it made was crazy considering.

Mine held together too, but always worried about the lumps scrapping the motor if it shat itself.

That had always been my worry from day zero as well , not because of the "repairs" , but a g40/g60 charger can let go without warning... G60 even more so. Top bearings usually seize and wipe the whole lot out.
Apex seals are ok if you can keep on top of them .. old ones shrink and punch a hole in the ends due to excessive movement.

I dislike reading about G laders, it just fills me with more worry about driving mine hard
