Title: Where's my gearbox from?.

Ive never touched it, The code is ALG, tbh it's not bad! Ratio's are great but I can't any info on it, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places!

Thats not a familiar code but could be a Golf gearbox. Are you reading it off the top of the clutch bell housing, underneath where the thermostat housing is?

Sounds like the end part of an and gearbox number my moneys on an and gt box

Looking at it through the wheel arch (on a ramp with no wheel or wing on) theres writing all around the drive shaft, part numbers nearer the bottom and the ALG is at the top, all facing outwards,

The gearbox code will be facings upwards if still connected to the engine.

My bad! Will have to look again tomorrow! No wonder I couldn't find any info on ratios!  Hopefully it will say ATV !

hard to see with the gearbox in the car as it's right under the thermostat housing and distributor but it'll be there!

yeh no kidding! luckily my boost pipe is off aswell, but i could just about make out ATV and possilby something more?  had to clean some crud of so it wasnt the easyest thing to read!

OK well that's good, ATV is the proper G40 gearbox.  The other numbers after it is the box's individual serial number, don't need to worry about that.
