Just fitted my rebuilt full blend charger i got off gary from this site a while back. it was spotless looking, had kubbler grease in it, yet when i finally started the car it makes a scobbing noise. not a continuous noise, but more of a 'scobe scobe scobe scobe scobe' noise if that makes sense. this cant be normal can it. tried a wee squirt of ptfe grease [very minimal] but it didnt change the noise.
only ran it for 5 mins and it sounds the same.
any ideas?

They have a throbbing noise wob wob wob IMO. Best getting a video up if you are worried as noises are very subjective without hearing them
-
My charger used to make the 'wob wob wob' noise too when it was running v belts. Since I moved to toothed belts it's gone... To be honest I miss that noise lots!

Defo post a video
a wanna hear scobe scobe scobe lol
tbh i bet its just the g-lader
.. they are quite noisy
-
Yeah! once you get the notion that somethings wrong inside it doesn't go away easily. Stick the old screwdriver stethoscope on it. If you hear more than the steady bearing whine it'll be pretty obvious.
-
How do you do this screwdriver thing? Never heard of it before.
-
You press a screw driver against the charger whilst its running and put your ear to it to listen to the vibrations of the scroll bearings etc
-
You can expect a rather tinny sounding but constant whine. Anything that goes "chink, chink, chink" isn't so good. Best have inspected.

Took a video but no point putting it up cause its just noise. My other charger I took out of the car sounded normal. That's why i think something isn't quite right. If I put my head to the cone filter I can hear the noise.
Put a screwdriver on several places around the charger n had a listen. Dunno how helpful that is cause it just sounds like noise n with nothing to compare it to it could be normal for all I know.
What's it meant to sound like using the screwdriver method?
Took the car for a drive n it seems ok. No oil in the boost pipes or throttle body or anything. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
Thanks anyway!

it could be due to the porting, some chargers do have deeper and different sounds that others.
You didn't happen to fit the new charger with a smaller pulley or anything.... i find that with a stock pulley you never get any strange noise but with a 65m or 68 you get wowowowowowow noise.
-
Pete, I have fitted a 65mm pulley. Been about 30miles on the charger now and it seems to be running fine. Sounds the same but its prob paranoia, I hope lol.
I've been drivning it at 2000rpm n changing gear at 2000rpm. How many miles do I do this for to bed in the seals and wen can I increase the rpm. Tried searchin for info on this but couldn't find any.
Cheers

its prob the 65 making the noise.
i normally say under 3,000 rpm and off boost for 300 miles... then gradually build it up over next 50
-
Thatll do mate, cheers!

That noise sounds like most of the latest music on Radio1. Could be dubstep ;D
