Title: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on March 26, 2012, 10:49:13 am
Hey all...

I thought i'd begin this seen as im giving the Polo a little more attention now ..

Well im onto my 6th coupe now.

I bought my black G40 from glasgow which a bus decided to hit!

So i found another RED GT shell local to me and the process began..

I Almost had this completed... when a saw a Clean Black GT shell ....
Im a sucker for a Black coupe... so i done it all over again ! :(

Now I only had my black G40 on the road a couple of months back in 2009 ...
Ihave never Driven the car since!
I now Drive a MK2 Ibiza Gti 16v.
I Work in a garage and also my own work in a shared lock up.

NOW... i used to start the G engine every week or so and let it idle and run a bit then for reasons i cant remember now i took the Head off ..
I fitted with the Metal gasket replacement

Then I bought a CUP box off 'polo classic' think his names craig wallet if memory serves..
Fitted with a nice Quaife Diff
(http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/djtezlawson/VWDiff.jpg)

I took my flywheel to Agra engineering scotland, dundee
Im sure they took the weight to 4.4kgs... i think it was 7.0 ... i wish a wrote it down ..

Then Start to Build back together ....again!

After this i decided i Wanted a 4branch manifold..
so i bought one ... just not the right one  >:(
(http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/djtezlawson/07042009274.jpg)
.... so after this didnt fit .. i decided not to muck about anymore! i was going for the better equipment and i knew i wanted a high tuned G40 ..

I found myself hunting down some bargains!
Firstly i got a PPP stage 3 subframe ..
Then right after a got a PPP full exhaust and a manifold too! ..

Then Yoof nicely supplied me a R1 spec charger .

So the spec list was somethings like

R1 jabbasport charger
PSD 65mm toothed belts
G60 injectors (with vw jackets)
GT inlet manifold
Piper 270 Camshaft
Full PPP exhaust & maifold
Standard bottom end
Metal gasket
Kevlar coat Clutch balanced
Lightened & balanced flywheel
Cup box with Diff
Uprated Driveshaft!

what brakes are you running for g60?

Also what CG motorsport clutch was it? You would prob be better off with a helix one. I had a CG one and it wasnt that great.

Well Today arrived my newly purchased
G60 lader...

Any one have an idea What width the "wide belt kits" are supposed to be and the standard width? finding some mixed inputs on the net ...
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: Jezza-7 on April 04, 2012, 09:35:30 pm
Depends what wide belt kit you get. Some are massive and you get new bigger cogs too. Cost a fortune though.

What you sending it to jabba for?
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 04, 2012, 09:42:48 pm
It has a wide belt on the standard cog atm 11/12mm either or

Is it worth me
Paying the 200 euros for wide cog and 20mm belt.

I was sending the charger to jabba to have it overhauled. Service with new bearings and seals..
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: PeteG40 on April 04, 2012, 09:52:14 pm
i've never heard of an 11mm belt snapping. plus a 20mm wide one will only sit 11-12,mm on the top shaft!
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 04, 2012, 10:05:45 pm
im just chasing the best,
Too many times have a wasted money on doing the cheaper option and something go wrong..

my understanding is the the 20mm belts come complete with two wider cogs to match ..

Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: PeteG40 on April 04, 2012, 10:23:08 pm
they are wider cogs.  But the top shaft that the cogs bolt on to isnt any longer if you know what i mean
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 04, 2012, 10:25:58 pm
ah yes, the belt covers the cog but the cog does not fully cover the shaft...

it is there for only bolted on and possibly making more strain on the top shaft bearing ?
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: PeteG40 on April 05, 2012, 09:13:54 am
plus rpm dont answer the phone or emails... so unless you can get elsewhere???
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 05, 2012, 09:29:11 am
Gonna trust your judgement here ..

Ill just replace the 11/12mm belt on it !
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: Jezza-7 on April 05, 2012, 11:24:21 am
That rs outlet, if you run a fmic your best off getting the 165 degree one.

Also the inlet that that they sell, can get cheaper on ebay.

Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 05, 2012, 12:57:12 pm
does the g40 inlet collar not fit ? .. meaning are the bolt distances the samE?

coz i have a 80mm+ inlet collar on my R1 ..
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: Jezza-7 on April 05, 2012, 08:24:17 pm
The g60 inlet collars i have seen are to fit hoses that are 90mm. Mine is 76mm and i dont think it will fit.
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 06, 2012, 01:08:32 pm
aw well..

i saw the 90mm on ebay.de !

also max rpm has them!
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 07, 2012, 12:30:36 pm
Basically im looking for advise on the MAP sensor situation ..

im aware of 250 & 300kps

from this information ..
A G40 charger will produce: 566ccm³ per rotation
A G60 charger will produce: 860ccm³ per rotation

860 / 566 = 1.519  (51%) more flow ...

so say for instance my car was to make 14psi on 65mm pulley ..
would that make this 14 x 1.519 = 21.2psi ... (1.463bar) ..

ive seen on most motor-talk.de discussion that g60 chargers making 1.6 bar in the 1300cc ..

should a go up to 300kpa.. are there any downfalls ? .. .

Thank you!
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: dub-disaster on April 07, 2012, 03:43:34 pm
im running 22 psi with a 250kpa map sensor which is pretty much up to its limit you can run a 300kpa map sensor but you will loose the reseloution on it.Think youd probably get away with a 250kpa but the person mapping your car should have the finial say in this
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 07, 2012, 08:53:10 pm
Dub please explain loose resolution ?

im kinda Sh*tt*n out on using a 65mm pulley atm ..

the more a read the more a get scared !
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60

Deep pockets for regular charger rebuild then? Depending on how much you drive though  ;D
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 07, 2012, 10:21:36 pm
looks like it :(

just not sure how often a would do it ..

might jump up to 68 or 70mm

with 1341 bottom end and ported big valve head plus stage 4 charger and all the other bits ill break 200bhp its lookin like anyway!

Oh theres a 241HP 86c polo running g60 with 65mm pulley.. :)
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: Jezza-7 on April 07, 2012, 10:37:19 pm
I think i remember someone saying that they did it every 3 k or something daft. But it all depends on how you drive it. The g60 wont like going up to 7k revs. Im sure if you used it as a daily it would be fine for prob 10k.
Title: Re: My Polo Gt-g40-g60
Post by: djtez on April 08, 2012, 03:47:40 am

Next job is the Bigend/Main bearings.

The Company that is boring my block use Wossner pistons but also use ACL race bearings.

Don't use dry just wet. Start with 360 wet nd finish with 2500 if you hv it. When you finish with 2500 you won't hv shine but you hv to use (just a bit ) rag grinder and blue chalk. With it everything will be sparkling  ;D
That's how I did it on mine Arosa  http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,151.15.html

They were £360 iirc, even £80 on top still £60 cheaper but seems the delivery time actually aint worth it !

Well, on friday i had a pleasant surprise ..

Agra Engineering rang to say that the short assembly was complete.

So i popped along and ran through everything with them and what i got back was this.

It had no Oil Pump Fitted..

so i did this straight away.. i've noticed that the pump can move slightly and tension the Chain...
i lifted the pump so the chain was as tight as possible, yet the chain still had movement.

And this morning more good news, seems my G60 charger is now ready to be shipped back to me also!

Now to get myself a Metal Head Gasket, and some Head bolts (still to be thought out)

Some info on the Block.

Bored out 1.5mm to suit 76.50mm Wossner pistons at 8:1 compression
Block was fully chemically cleaned.
Face of block was skimmed
Crank was re ground
Heavy duty bearings and conversion kit supplied to match ( ACL items im sure )
Crankshaft, conrods and pistons were all balanced.

Short assembly was Rebuilt by Agra, As well as painted (even though i never asked for it to be, and it was not the colour of choice)

Old pistons were given back, and will sell if anyone needs them (engineer said in perfect nick and rings showed no signs of wear)

Well i cant really update!! .....

i have failed you all !

i thought the polo would have been finished by now but with moving house etc it just hasn't been looked at !

so i went and bought myself an EP3 Honda civic type R for the time being..... :-|

I need to get myself a headgasket..

also head bolts... fluids... and sort something out for ECU!

will contact a company soon enough about a MAP sensor and a Chip to get the G running on the G60 lader :)

polo is booked in next month for a full respray! and engine bay etc....

Anyone got ideas on colours.... Staying blacks or greys.. suggestions would be cool.. i like LC9Z but i dont know if this will ruin the look of an old car? ...

Peace :D
