im looking into getting maximum traction out of my car at the moment. I have done all the other bits required to get the best out of my chassis these include stitch welding engine bay and usual bracing, ppp stage 3 frame, quafe diff and some yoko a539 tyres in 185/50/r14 .
Just wondered if any one had any handy links or knows of any good sources of info on using slicks/semi slicks and the type of slick for the application along with correct sizing.
Also any information sources on tyre tempratures for road tyres and the effects of wider tyres and aspect ratio change on laterial grip and straight line traction.

I run Yoko A048R's and i find them brilliant on the track!
They warm up quickly as well.

What size mickey Thompsos do you run on the strip robin and on what size rim ??

I run 20 x 6 x 14 Mickey's on a 14'' steel rim.

Nah prob staying with my 14's. I got some tyres that are slightly bigger at the mo and got no issues at all. My car is not lowered though and i dont intend to lower it, only get some better suspension.

where did you source your mickey Thompsons from i can't find a supplier in the UK.

eBay - got them back new for about £120 each.
They discontinued them a while ago, I probably got the last pair in the uk!

Last time I had a look they didn't do R888's in favourable 14" size (not less 60 profile anyway!) Loads of choice with 13" wheels though.

Yeah those will be like tractor tyres on a polo! I've got 55 profile A048 Advans and these still catch now and again on the track.

Stick some 13's on. Semi and slicks are easy to come by.
I run 175/50/13 a048r's on my ats classics

I've got 256mm brakes so they won't fit although I may try some a048's in 55 profile on my 14's

Exactly my problem, I've got 256's too so can run 13's. 14's are just poo sizes in track spec tyres.

I use 185/55/14 yokohama a048r on my 14" wheels.

Yoof's got 13"s over 256mm brakes.

yeah with offsets so silly the car is un-drivable with them on :D

ET0 required to clear brakes, I guess with 256mm Girling calipers, you may get away with shaving 10mm off that.
No problems with arch clearance anymore- I've chopped that arches away ;D

Sorry to thread hijack, but what brakes are people running with 13" wheels? Surly not standard on track? And ive got some road legal track tyres, even when warm i can hardly get the power down in first sometimes second, 175 60's kumho v700's no slip diff
am i doing something wrong?

Cup cars always used 239mm stock brakes. Fitted with track pads and race fluid, and a bias valve.
Just try to push the pedal through the floor!
I run a 256mm 4-Pot Midilite (Wilwood) and a larger master cylinder, with bias valve (stock rear brakes)

haha thats what i have been doing!! Pretty much set my pads on fire on holiday, was smoke piling out of them! And boiled my fluid, you its bad when you METAL IS ON FIRE!! Brembo discs and pagid pads
Ive got a 22mm master cylinder to go on, i tried looking it up but how does this bias pedal box thing work? Ive been having loads of trouble with my clutch and pedal boxes cracking, thing ive probably cracked the bulk head (smashing those brakes lol)

ok mate, thank you. Could you recommend me some fluid, discs and pads for fast road/hard track use
im sure coming down some on these mountain sections is alot harsher on your brakes than serious track use, as your just constantly slamming them on

Probably so as you're going much slower with longer brake applications, for a longer period of time.
RBF600 Fluid is what I use, loads of pads for Mk1 Golf GTi out there that will fit the G40, whatever you pick make sure it's not some endurance pad which requires you to left foot brake for the first 5 miles so they work.
I'd also leave the standard master cylinder on with standard size calipers.

I run standard brakes on my car and last time I was at Oulton i ran black diamond grooved and drilled discs along with some DS3000 pads - they were really really good once bedded in (the pads come with instructions on how to bed them in on track - it's something like 3 hard stops from high speed and then allow to cool).

Ok thanks for the advice, was looking at those black diamond discs, if that setup is good enough for your turbo and track abuse....
how come you say not to fit the bigger master
cylinder with standard calipers, id like to keep standard as i like standard wheels :)
yeah, pretty much always on the brakes and some hill sections are 10 miles long_ so thats a dam long time on the brakes, im thinking of cutting the fog vents out of the bumper and making ducts for the brakes, as well as taking the backing shields off
thanks again, as theres so many discs, pads and fluid out there didnt know what to get, went with brembo and pagid originally as they are well known

I've got a bumper with fog bits cut out for sale to save you cutting yours if you ever wanted to go back to a normal bumper. I could drop it off at Pete's if you wanted it.

appreciate the offer mate but mine are scratched anyway so not too fussed and they dont have the red stripe :/
