Title: 14" 8J
Post by: Jezza-7 on April 20, 2011, 11:00:11 pm
Been looking into steffan bcw's 14x7,5/ 14x8j ET 15 and was wondering if you would get much clearance or tyre rub?

Also would you need spacers?

Have seen a mk3 polo in the search for "steffan" that had them fitted.

Anyone know the owner?

You'll find that 7.5 on the front sticks out a bit. Whether it rubs or not will depend on lows and tyre choice.  8's on the back will rub with 195/45 on but will be minimal unless you have it on it's arse.

i will be using a 40/60 h&r cup kit soon.

Most tyre size's i have seen people use with these are 195/45. Would probably stick with them.

Would a tyre size of 185/50 be better?

185/50 is a higher profile but will have a little more stretch. At 60/40 I think you'll be ok with 195/45's although they seem to cost a shit load more from memory.

You're biggest issue will be 7.5 ET15 on the front.

This pic shows my G with 8j et 15 on the back and 7j et 20 on the front. Both with 195/45.  7.5j et 15 is going to stick out another 20mm (ish)

Looks very nice.

So because there et 15 they will be mounted slightly further out and the width being wider will make them stick out a little further, i see.

So you wouldn't need spacers as there already far enough out.

Picture helps understand it better, well did for me.

Yep, basically you'll be further out because of both. The other thing to bear in mind is that my arches are fully rolled and it still rubbed a bit at the back.

If you did a diagram based on the pic you have you could work out the exact dimensions for my wheels and your proposed ones, should give you an accurate idea.

Easy rule of thumb is the lower the offset the more they stick out. You need a lower offset than standard with wider wheels to keep the inside edge away from the suspension, this is not such a problem with a height adjustable set-up as they use smaller diameter springs. The downside is arch scrubbing which you're already aware of.
